My Space Godzilla sculpt

Postby Dragonstorm » Sun Apr 12, 2009 12:18 pm

I've been working on this about a year and a half on and off and I finally finished this bad boy. It's 13.5 inches tall, has LED lights under the clear resin shoulder crystals and took a lot of foil and sculpey! Here's the pics:

Next to my Godzilla sculpt from 2003 (if you were at G-Fest 12 in 2005 you might have seen this one):

For scale, here is a 3.75" Bossk figure catching a ride on SG:

Thanks for looking!

Jeebus Cripes dude, that is awesome.... the ONLY negative I can say at all is that the stance of the legs looks a little awkward to me and it seems like he's got his center of gravity shifted a little far back so his weight's on his heels (and tail), but all in all you kicked ass... G vs. Spacegodzilla is one of my least favorite of the Godzilla films for various reasons but the character design was always good, and you've done a great job here. I like the teeth, the look of the crystals, everything. Well done sir!

Wow that is soooo awesome? Do you have any plans for any future additions to your collection of home made figures?

The poses leave a little to be desired but overall I must concur with the general sentiment of  .

King_Ghidorah: Thanks- Maybe in a few years Destroyah or Burning Godzilla.... or Godzilla 2000. Ghidorah would be cool but that would literally be a huge project- someday maybe! The next few projects will probably be smaller figures or busts so they don't eat up so much time.

kiryugoji04:
Thanks- With their poses I feel like I have to compromise some so they are sturdy enough to stand on their own, especially during the cooking process. I've had a few sculpts that leaned over while cooking and you don't find out until you pull it out of the oven. :o

Excellent work on both, though the hands on Goji remind me of those of Gorgo.

Thanks guys... :)

Mysterio: this one does have some pretty sturdy wire underneath but it's still easy to get them off balance. There were places near the legs and tail that cracked when baking because it's soft but plastic-y when it comes out of the oven before solidifying when it cools, and the weight strained that part. I patched those parts in. If I did something with a base permanently attached that would probably help.

Sculpey needs to be cooked at 275º F for 15 minutes for every quarter inch of thickness.

WOW! Those are great. You did an excellent job on the detail of the faces especially on Space Godzilla. How difficult was it to get the right light coloring for the LED's?

Thanks! The LED lights themselves were from a place on ebay called DAV electronics, it's basically a nine-volt battery attachment wired to 2 leds, I think they are intended to be glowing eyes for masks or headlights for model cars. I just ordered bright white.

I don't have any experience wiring electronics myself, and I found they were exactly what I had in mind (was going to use mini Christmas LED's originally.) I lined the area under the crystals with foil and glued in some small mirrors to help reflect more light around.
