It's Official: May 25th is the Day!

Postby Enshohma » Tue Mar 18, 2008 9:42 pm

So if you're not in the mood to see Harrison Ford renew his body like Doctor Who or Baron Munchausen, come on down and hang out. The official film schedule is still being worked out, but again we are going to do our best at showing items not readily available on US DVD, and it's a great chance to see these items for free!

E-mail me however for a preview of what's to come, but remember, we're still working it out and it in itself tentative.

More information on the event will be coming in the days ahead, and hope to see any of you guys there.

Finally have the full schedule, less then a week from the actually event. I doubt many people will show up, especially considering that some old guy with glass skulls will be showing up in the multiplex a couple of days beforehand...but if you are in the LA area and want to attend the seven hour marathon, please notify me so we can have a good idea how many to expect.

Although the thing starts at 11:50 AM, if we get some early birds around opening time (10AM) I'll be sure to keep them entertained until the main event...just another heads up.

Location's main web-site with address and directions:

http://www.thecomicbug.com/

Films in Play Order, from 12PM-to-7PM:

11:50- Opening introduction with host Raf 'Crazy' Gonzalez, along with...

Miscellaneous Items (Various)

In-between the main features, various shorts related
to giant monsters will be shown, from short cartoons,
to excerpt footage, and film trailers, rare and
bizarre alike. It was the only way we could fit even
more monsters then with the four full-length items.
Especially since Gamera and King Kong are absent from
the main features.

12PM- Mystery Science Theater 3000: Godzilla vs. Megalon (97 minutes, English)

The now infamous and no longer available on DVD
episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000, in which Joel
and his robot pals Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo sit
through the anti-epic which is Godzilla vs. Megalon.
The subterranean world of Seatopia wants revenge
against us surface dwellers and hi-jack the groovy
robot superhero Jet Jaguar to lead their insectoid
monster-god Megalon on a rampage across the Japanese
countryside. Jet Jaguar eventually breaks free and
goes for the help of Godzilla himself, while Megalon
gets aid from the gnarly space cyborg Gigan! And our
three audience members sit through and comment on the
action like boxing commentators...oh, and tons of
Oscar Wild references included...?

Note: If this item is overly familiar with the
attending audience, another film will be played in its
place.

1:45- Ultraman Mebius and the Ultra Brothers (2007, 92 minutes, Japanese with subtitled)

Sometime in the late 1980s, the four alien Ultra
Brothers in arms, Ultraman, Ultraseven, Ultraman Jack
and Ultraman Ace, were fighting the powerful beast
U-Killersaurus and its pure evil creator, the
inter-dimensional specter named Yapool. In order to
seal the creature away on Earth, the four were forced
to give up their ability to transform, and have lived amongst the citizens of Kobe, Japan as
regular humans ever since.

Many years later, the current Ultra hero, the talented
rookie Ultraman Mebius, heads to Kobe on an
investigation and finds an allied force of past alien
foes intent on awakening Yapool and U-Killersaurus for
their own devious plans. Now the new hero must team up
with the old guard to battle against these multiple
opponents in this colorful, action-packed adventure
celebrating the 40th anniversary of the still going
strong Ultraman franchise.

3:30- Dai-Gaurd (2001, 45 minutes, English dubbed)

Featuring episodes 1-to-2, this surprisingly charming
and oddly down-to-Earth Japanese animated comedy mixes
salary man sitcom with giant robots and monsters! In
the near future, monsters from another dimension
dubbed Heterodynes appeared and the Japanese Self
Defense Force commissioned the construction of
Dai-Guard, a robot big enough to handle the threat.
But before the giant machine was completed, the
Heterodynes disappeared as soon as they showed up, and
the now useless robot was sold to 21st Century
Security, an insurance and home defense company to be
used as a gigantic mascot!

Ten years pass, and during one company convention, a
new Heterodyne arrives from the sea, sending many
people in a sudden panic as the beast brings havoc.
Thankfully, Dai-Guard's current caretakers, the lowly
men and woman of the Public Relations Division #2 are
ready to take up the challenge...much to the dismay of
the military and Public Relations's own higher-ups!

4:45- Godzilla: Final Wars (2004, 125 minutes, English dubbed)

Closing out the marathon is an insane hybrid of
Michael Bay, Hong Kong action and what else, Japanese
monsters, from director Ryuhei Kitamura, the man
behind "Versus" and "Azumi". In the not-too-distant
future (again), the Earth in invaded by aliens and
their army of subjugated monsters. The remnants of the
once mighty Earth Defense Force, lead by Captain
Douglas Gordon (Don "The Predator" Frye) and young
mutant solider Shinichi Ozaki (Masahiro Matsuoka)
board the flying battleship Gotengo (AKA Atragon) and
heads for the South Pole. There they make one last
disparate bid to save what's left of mankind; awaken
the King of the Monsters, Godzilla himself, from his
icy tomb. And kick lots of alien and monster booty in
the process!

Featuring 15 giant monsters in all, including Mothra,
Rodan, Minilla the Son of Godzilla , Gigan the space
cyborg, the skeletal newcomer simply titled Monster
X and many more, "Godzilla: Final Wars" was an insane film to ring
in the Big Guy's 50th anniversary!

Bring your own comfy chair if you'd like!

I'm at the Comic Bug right now and had to let you all know that today's movie showings went pretty good, with about 15 people showing up in all. The most popular item of the day was "Ultraman Mebius and the Ultraman Brothers" with lots of kids and their parents attending.

Our own forum member and fellow kaiju artist Hawanja (AKA Marc) did attended for all the films minus "Final Wars" and for his wonderful presence at the event, I present this awesome illustration of his featuring 97 monsters from his Deviant page:

Depending on how the owners feel about the little film festival and it's nice attendance number, we might have more of these in the future, October at the earliest...this if so, I'll make an even bigger ruckus in advertising it.
