Got my copy of the latest G-fan. Hate to sound whiny or cynical but the issue felt like a regurgitation of the recent trend of "MEH...".
Good points: Fan art, G-fest line up, Gammera re-evaluation, MMMM HMMM the Zoellner sisters (good idea for G-fest guests!!), Cloverfield reviews (sadly, J.D. finds the movie to be "exactly what (he) feared it would be, except worse"... no surprise there. He kind of reminds me of an old beaten catholic that can't stand to see his "religion" modernized and grow beyond his obsolete take on it. The world's got to turn, man), G-MAIL, Lemay's Dino article, Dr. Summeral!!!, Bouge's Frankenstein reflection, the Latitude Zero article, the toy review (though I won't EVER buy from agin agAin, as in, NOT EVER AGIN... hehehe I made a funny!).
The Bad: ALL of the inconsequential Hommenick interviews EXCEPT for the Zoellner sister's article (get Kumi Mizumo, if ya can, and I'll be a happier reader!!), Armand's tedious bit on the umpteenth history lesson on G's atomic roots (sorry man, it's been done to DEATH already), "GINO love" and the overall poor and juvenile authorship of the article, Mr. Koichi's side projects *snicker*.
The Ugly: The dang inclusion of the King Komodo comic and J.D.'s stamp of approval over the implied long awaited return of a "kaiju comic" feature... SEE EDITOR'S SECTION (WTF?!?, you guys didn't learn from Gfantis?!?!).
The Boring: Monster from Green Hell article (you guys don't exactly RAISE the bar for the genre with the inclusion of the on-going-and-ever-justifying "I found it fun" review of truly Z-grade AMERICAN CRAP "cinema" in a Godzilla magazine... I personally don't care if I ever hear/read about this junk, Debus's Mad Scientist article (couldn't even finish it).
Ya can't make everyone happy I guess. On a side note, I'm a little peeved about the news of a Parker and Stone parody on our beloved genre (haven't we suffered enough insult??).
Peace.
