There are only two Green Lanterns I even care about (well, human GLs, anyway), and keep in mind I grew up with Hal as GL: Alan Scott and Kyle Rayner.

The thing is that Hal's got the cool origin story. Abin Sur gave him the ring. Guy's and John's origins branch off of Hal's in a way that it would be impossible to have a movie featuring them without having Hal in it. Of course Berlanti could conjure up some new origin (or worse yet give Guy or John Hal's), but what would be the point of that? WB: learn from Marvel (you know, that upstart movie studio that you've had a decades-long head start on with your ownership of all DC characters). If you like the comic enough to invest hundreds of millions developing a movie franchise, don't stray too far from the source.
The only other way I could see this going is if you went with Kyle's story right when Ganthet gives him the ring and tell some of what happened to Hal just as a way of explaining the circumstances surrounding Kyle becoming GL.

And Geoff Johns is currently doing an outstanding job redefining Hal's origin story in the pages of Green Lantern right now. Hollywood would do well to take notice.
