R.I.P. Robert Jordan

It is a sad time for fantasy lovers everywhere, as we say farewell to one of the greats. James Rigney, better known to readers by the name Robert Jordan, passed away today.

Though his Wheel of Time series did not appeal to my personal tastes, it would be ignorant to disregard it as one of the most influential and important works to ever grace the fantasy genre. Wheel of Time was his legacy, and that part of him will certainly live on for a very long time in the hearts of readers all over the world.

Apparently he told the ending of WoT to a family member this weekend and his son has been a big part of the last few books while he has been sick. The final book, which has been in progress, appears to be in good hands and will see completion. It makes me happier knowing that all of his hard work on this epic series will not be harshly affected by his passing.
