2 CD Set for GODZILLA ('98) Released

Postby Robert Saint John » Tue Jul 10, 2007 5:35 pm

Just posted about La-La Land Records releasing the first official studio endorsed release of David Arnold's full score for GODZILLA. Unfortunately, I found out about it too late to get an autographed copy. Guess the Godzilla releases have done pretty good for LLL!

I ordered mine as soon as I could, don't know if I got an autoraphed copy.

Regardless of what you may think of the film itself, David Arnold's score is pretty good, even though he uses Bernard Herrmann's Cape Fear theme for Godzilla. :D

I've always loved the opening of the film, even if the film itself disappointed me as a Godzilla fan.
I'll probably pick this up.

Too bad they aren't including the stock music used for the film's theatrical trailers and television spots which wound up being more powerful, exciting and memorable than the "astounding orchestral score" David Arnold composed for the film. I think some of the stock music used came from THE PEACEMAKER by Hans Zimmer... In fact, just get the THE PEACEMAKER .

is a direct link to the La-La Land Records site about the disc.

This is a REALLY great release. Got it yesterday, played nice and loud on a day trip to and from San Jose today, and it's really one of Arnold's better soundtracks. I've never paid much attention to it before because of GINO, and never made an effort to track down any of the boots or imports. Probably a good thing, because enough time has passed that I can really appreciate this, plus the mix and mastering are probably much better than anything else that's come out before.

To me, Arnold's music for Stargate, Independence Day, Tomorrow Never Dies and Godzilla is detailed and interesting, with carefully and beautifully woven thematic development. On the other hand, Zimmer churns out the same old simplistic monotonous drones that become an ordeal for me to listen to.
