Gunhed Manga/Game...

I was messing around on google and came across 2 things that perked my curiosity. Both involving Toho's Gunhed (I'm not sure why I was looking for Gunhed stuff in the first place because I find the movie to be one of Toho's worst SPFX films) Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any info regarding the following. Why/when did they decide to make this into a manga?



Second off is a video game. I can't figure out what system it was for. It looks too advanced to be NES, but Gunhed was made when NES was state of the art, so this is confusing (I just don't see why they would make a game of such an unsuccesful and lame movie years after it was released)

I thought it was a manga first?
I've never seen the game before,but dollars to doughnuts it's for the PC Engine system.

The manga came first. Then the movie. Then the game, which just as kidnicky guessed, was released for the Turbografx 16 console.

The manga came first? I thought the movie originated out of an aborted Godzilla script??

I'm confused. So if the movie is based on a manga, where does Jim Banon's script from Toho's script contest come in?
