This is somewhat off topic, but I accidently found this and thought that, maybe, some of you are interested in this kind of information, too:

Those of you interested in the historical background of RODAN, please check out the last chapter, entitled THE COAL MINERS MOVEMENT, especially the economic and political events that took place around the time when RODAN was produced.

@OtiGoji:

I am convinced there is a social commentary in RODAN. At least, the various problems associated with the coal mining industry must have been well-known during the time RODAN was made, therefore I don't believe that the film touched on this subject by sheer chance.

> There's a clear social commentary (left out of the American version)
> at the climax where scientists express concern for the local villagers
> if the volcano is triggered into activity.

When I saw RODAN the first time with subtitles (thanks to James Ballard), I was surprised to find out that the Japanese commander is more likeable in the American version when it comes to shelling Mount Aso. In the American version, the military also seems to be more competent, because when they first search for Rodan, the American version utilizes the scene with the helicopter while in the Japanese version the military seems to have nothing but three jeeps at hand.
