I finally caught ULTRAMAN THE NEXT this evening. I haven't really had time to properly absorb everything I saw, but I had such a great time watching it. This is, hands down, the best tokusatsu film I've seen in years. Actually, it's probably one of the best films period. Save for perhaps GMK, I had far more fun with this film than any of the recent Godzilla entries.

Save one or two brief shots of CGI jets, the special effects work is simply astounding. This film cost less than FINAL WARS? It doesn't show, in fact it looks completely the opposite. My only quibble is that parts of the score seemed rather bland or akward (though hardly to the extent of the afforementioned FINAL WARS). Bessho makes for an excellent lead. He handles the role perfectly. I'm so honestly tired of all these J-Pop starts filling up tokusatsu recently.

Having only seen a few odd episodes, I've never really considered myself an Ultra-fan, but this film, along with ULTRAMAN NEXUS, have completely sold me. The void left from Godzilla doesn't seem as bad anymore, as I've got 40 years worth of Ultraman to catch up on!

Anyway, this post is rather all over the place. I need time to really collect my thoughts :)

ULTRAMAN NEXT is a f**king OUTSTANDING movie!!!

Saw this yesterday at Fantasia. Not one bad thing to say about it -- and yes, this movie takes GFW and kicks it in the nads. Very awesome and consistent FX work and an intriguing non-kiddie storyline. Loved the final battle in front of the Tax Towers!
