If anything, it eliminates the Sony fanboy argument/defense for free online multiplayer.

Having both free and premium XB-Live services is a genius move toward market domination. MS is obviously going for the freakin' jugular here.

And Nintendo is a non-factor is this scenario.

But HD-DVD and Blu-Ray no longer exist. Instead, the best features of the two will be combined into one. Sony and Toshiba aren't even competing anymore, as they agreed to co-create a single new format.
