Kumonga's Fate: Dead or Alive?

Whether Kumonga died or not is open for interpretation. What do y'all think? Do you think he died? Or do you think he survived?
I think that he died for two reasons: Firstly, I think that it was Kitamura's intention for all of the kaiju that fight Godzilla to be killed; Secondly, I think that Kumonga would have died on impact after hitting the ground, or drowned after landing in the ocean.
