When did the Gotengo trap Godzilla in ice and what year did Final Wars happen?

I think I've always misremembered that as being 2025. Neat to finally have that rectified.

I misremembered it as 2032. As for the opening bit, that happened in the late 90's, so anywhere between 1996-1999.

IMDB has the same except for last badly written sentence, "It is much likely that Junior was the Godzilla in Finals Wars as the stock footage of his resurrection was shown simultaneously with Godzilla frozen inside ice." My god, where did you copy and paste that from?

Wouldn't be shocked if some 11 year old wrote it.

If that was Godzilla Jr. I have to look at the film from an entirely different perspective.

That would mean Mothra's backstory included both Battra and Gigan as ancient foes.

The futurians design for King Ghidorah finds its origins in Kaiser Ghidorah and possibly whatever cells are left over from the Monster X battle (this is very similar toho's abandoned sequel to GvKG where he would be a more powerful space monster).

Gotengo was pretty much the final embodiment of the Super X, perfecting the freezing ray from Super X III, with more passenger space than Mechagodzilla and Moguera.

There was another Rodan Egg on Birth Island? Or did he also come back to life when Godzilla died, and maybe some of his energy went to Jr. the part he got from Rodan reformed into Rodan minus the ray which was still with Jr. who uses the hyper ray to destroy Kaiser?
I always felt Godzilla's overuse of that ray contributed directly to his condition in Destroyer, which is why he only used it as a finishing move when he first got it.

Perhaps Angilas was in an egg from birth Island since Rodan's ancestors gathered Godzillasaurus eggs and may have taken in ankylasaurus etc who would have been mutated from radiation.

Mechagodzilla (and even Super MechaGodzilla) has already appeared in this timeline so bringing him back would have been completely redundant, Mogera (who IMO was superior to MG but inferior to SMG) likewise.

The hesei timeline now includes aliens, futurians, psychics, superhumans, magic (or whatever the heck Minya does to grow..I will rewatch it when my sony bluray comes), and approximately 20+ Kaiju (minus the stock footage in the intro).

Mothra finally returned to earth and grew a bit, about 5,000 tons, 7 meters longer and an additional 40 meter wingspan. Very different from her size in 4/5 of the other films she showed up in the last 20 years. GMK she was close though bigger in some ways, so the hesei version works.
ANyway I like this idea, just kind of wonder if its canon.

I would never take a girl to see Final Wars on a date.

I've avoided showing it to my wife. She doesn't want to see it anyway based on what she's heard.

My girlfriend loathes this movie. In fact, I think she may even loathe this more than the 98 movie, although she doesn't like either.

I put Final Wars on for the first time for my girlfriend the other night and she fell asleep before Godzilla was awakened from his icy sleep. She thought it was incredibly boring and had no personality. She loved G14 and has seen it with me 4 times already. I'm trying to get her to see Godzilla the way I've seen him, but Final Wars just doesn't do that.

I remember when the movie had yet to be released that the opening scene, with the Gotengo, was said to take place in the 1960s/70s. I guess I've misremembered that myself...

My wife has seen 4 Godzilla movies. The kindest thing she's said has been "That was about what I expected."

Early in our relationship we went through all of the films. She actually loves Godzilla vs. Hedorah, Monster Zero, and the original. She doesn't like things like Mothra vs. Godzilla (which almost seems HERESY), but she does so on the basis of her hating Mothra. I can't recall many of her other favorites, but I know she liked X MechaGodzilla, SpaceGodzilla, and vs. Megalon.

Space Godzilla for Little Godzilla/Space Godzilla and vs. Megalon because Jet Jaguar is cool. I guess.
