Still a very good movie with flaws, be it the pacing or the special effects. The strength out weigh the weaknesses for me. It definitely has more flair than most Godzilla movies, and an interesting take. The ending about the old man disappearing still gives me goose bumps to this day.

This movie gets a lot of hate and it's unwarranted compared to a lot of the other films. At least it was different.

Check this out: https://archive.org/details/project-gmk-2001
This guy with the archive.org account "Obscure Archives" has been using OpenAI's Whisper tool to generate English subtitles for a lot of kaiju-related Japanese documentaries and featurettes. He just recently posted this translation of Project GMK, the nearly two-hour documentary from the second disc of Toho's three-disc GMK DVD box set released in Japan back in 2002.
I've watched the whole thing and it's fantastic! There are a few wonky subtitles here and there but the translation seems very well done for the most part. This documentary is packed with behind-the-scenes footage from the making of GMK, featuring interviews with Shusuke Kaneko, Shogo Tomiyama and other cast & crew members.
For reference, here's an archive of the old Tokyo Monsters review of Toho's GMK DVD box set: https://web.archive.org/web/20060109225219/http://www.tokyomonsters.com/dvdreview-R2-Toho-gmk.php
