I love Final Wars, but that's because I'm also a big fan of the 70s Godzilla movies (just about any of Jun Fukuda's movies), which GFW shamelessly apes non stop.

But to have any kind of remake would have been stupid, especially for a 50th anniversary. I know GFW wasn't the kind of celebration everybody was looking for (being that it was campy and it knew it was campy), but at least it had monsters we hadn't seen in a loooong time and non stop homages to more obscure movies like Gorath. GFW is enough of a Monster Zero/DAM remake as it is, so a direct remake would just be even more lifeless.

Either way, at least we weren't left with another bland, unimaginative Heisei wanna be film, like most of the other Millenium movies were... now THOSE were remakes (especially the Kiryu movies).

The reason why GFW and GMK are my favorite Millenium G-films is because they took different approaches to the series, which is something that hadn't been done since the early 90s when Kazuki Omori started directing.

Why would you want a direct remake of a classic in the first place? Honda's Monster Zero is one of the best and it just doesn't need it, nor would it be any better of a 50th anniversary film than GFW.

The Godzilla series went stale long before Final Wars, IMO, but at least all the movies were enjoyable despite their flaws and unoriginality. That's more than other long running film franchises can say (ie Halloween, Friday The 13th, James Bond, etc), so I think we've gotten lucky. I know I can't speak for all fans, but that's my view on the whole thing.

<<a cooler more hip version of MZ>>

Umm.....that's just stupid. Why remake Monster Zero anyway? Why can't Toho show us that they have atleast a little bit of imagination, instead of "jazzing up" one of their more memorable outputs (made at a time when there was some REAL talent at the studio, mind you). The Godzilla movies should always have their own identity, instead of catering to this sorry-ass generations idea of what is "cooler and more hip."

Tell me something. What is everyone's fascination with "darker versions" of things? What, are you all goths, or something? If you like Monster Zero, or any other Godzilla movie, for that matter, then why do you want to make it "darker?" If, by "darker," you mean, more believable, then I can atleast understand it. But the thing about these movies that is so appealing, atleast to me, is that they're just south of reality. A professor of film once told me (and this is really good advice) that the object of a film is to strive for "believability," and that "realism" shouldn't exist in a filmmaker's vocabulary.

In short, I don't EVER want to see a Godzilla movie that is totally "realistic..." or one that is a "darker version" of another....gee, I wish that Ishiro Honda and co. were still alive.
