That post-credits ending wasn't meant to segue into any other sequel. Tezuka intended Godzilla: Tokyo SOS to be the finale of the Kiryu Saga. That ending was simply meant to signify that humanity had not learned from their mistakes, and were continuing to make new ones in tampering with nature.

On a side note, just for fun, Tezuka and the writers of GMMG came up with a mini story idea for Godzilla's 50th anniversary movie. Something like a "Destroy All Mecha-Monsters" concept, in which humanity rebuilt Mechagodzilla as well as an army of other mecha kaiju, which subsequently ran amok. They drew two storyboard drawings depicting the conceptual idea:

You'll notice Mechagodzilla in those pictures, along with concepts for Mecha-Baragon, Mecha-Kumonga, Mecha-Gaira, Mecha-Sanda, Mecha-Varan, and Mecha-Kamoebas, among others.

But this idea was never intended by any Toho executives to be the 50th anniversary Godzilla movie. This was just something that the writers of GMMG thought up for fun. Indeed, Ryuhei Kitamura, Wataru Mimura, and the other writers for Godzilla: Final Wars were already underway on writing the screenplay for that movie at the time of GMMG's release.

I was actually the one who'd scanned those three images in the first place and posted them here, from the GMMG "Special Edition" Book/CD-ROM set that came out. Just saw that I still have the hi-rez versions on my system! Here's the third one (the DNA):

And here's 2 images of "the Godzilla bones on the moon", from the GxMG Special Edition book:

y'know, i had heard somewhere on this board that tezuka wanted a trilogy
so i personally think that SOS was left open at the end to segue into the next movie which will most likely never be made

Lots of things get "said" on this board, but I'd take a lot of it with a grain of salt. Tezuka said he'd told all he wanted to with SOS - head that with my own ears. I'll take his word over internet gossip.

But what if YOU'RE just gossiping about Tezuka, Jim? Sorry. Couldn't help it.

I dunno, I'm glad there wasn't a third film
