Did they shrink Ozaki?

I noticed a change in the U.S. video cover art for Final Wars: they shrunk Ozaki! Take a look at the initial image we saw:

Then take a look at the cover art featured on Amazon.com:

You can even see the change on the sales sheet, though Godzilla's claw is hiding it a little:

So of all the alterations that could have been made to the cover, like changing the logo to the one used on the Japanese cover or adding more flippin' monsters, they took one of the cool parts of the cover - Ozaki striking a stylish pose - and made it less distinguishable. I wonder what the thinking was behind this decision...

I believe that when a company uses images of Masahiro Matsuoka, the smaller the image of him, the less you have to pay him.

(just kidding)

Just from a graphics and marketing standpoint, by shrinking Ozaki (who would have no face recognition to buyers anyway), it makes Godzilla look larger and more powerful. That's my guess.

What I don't get is why do the ONLY have Mothra, Godzilla, and Kaiser Ghidorah on the cover... what about the other 12 monsters? Geez.... it really makes you question the type of people that get into marketing these days....

And so, the most disappointing of all of Sony's cases is made slightly more disappointing.

I notice that they also pronounced Godzilla's teeth more, so the Ozaki shrinkage likely really was to make Godzilla look bigger and more imposing.

Heh, looks like it got that PG-13 rating after all. Pwnage.

He...12 Ouns Mouse knows what the real question is.

About the change to Godzilla, they basically turned his yellowish claws and teeth to white. How unnecessary...

Good eye, Ben-H. I kind of like the halogen-lamp teeth they put on Goji, but as was said, why?

And yes, where the freak is Don Frye, the real star of this movie?

I found a clue about the teeth on the BriteWhite Dental Whitening System website. Looks like G has been putting those profits to good use this year, probably preparing for his comeback:

LOL

It's a shame Goji didn't get dental benefits like that back in '99.

Something else to blame on the poor net profits of GINO, I'm sure!

Is it too late to lobby Sony to further alter the cover art, I wonder?

Looking at the two covers, my guess is that they shrunk the size of the mutant character to eliminate any misconception that one of them grows to giant size as part of the movie. After looking at the original image for a while, I did get the impression that either this was one really big human/mutant or the monsters aren't all that big. In that context, I think it makes sense for them to change it.

Yea. Ed makes a great point, though I think that since the actor is unrecognizable anyways to the common person, they should have just taken him off the cover altogether.

They also removed the Japanese writing from the building in the lower right.
