When I first saw GFW, I disliked it....heavily.

I like it now, but I have to be in the right frame of mind to watch it. If I watch it with the idea of "This is how Michael Bay would make a Godzilla movie", I find it stupidly enjoyable.

That's also a reason to still dislike it....heavily.

^ Well, it isn't funny in a FG way, but it's funny in a ridiculous sort of way. Either way, even if half the fandom hates it, and the other half likes it, that's still pretty successful considering how big the Godzilla fanbase is. But it's a matter of taste and nothing more.

When I first saw the movie I enjoyed it. It was like candy for the eyes. However much like candy too much of it can make you sick. I've only seen the film a hand full of times since then. There were a lot of scenes that I felt were rushed especially with the kaiju. I also felt a lot of the human action scenes were extraneous and didn't fit with the movie. I also felt a lot of scenes were more of a mockery to the kaiju genre than a homage. A good homage is subtle. A mockery is a blatant parody highlighting a bad feature of the one of the older movies.

If I were directing the movie I would have done the following. (excuse the type-o's I am rushing this while I am at work.)

Either cut these monsters or combined them into 1 battle possibly replaced the Anguirus/Rodan/King Caesar battle with this one
Kamakiras
Kumonga
Hedora
Ebirah ( though he still would have had the mutants vs Ebirah scene)

Removed the motorcycle chase sequence

Removed the death star knockoff sequence.

Dropped Minya from the movie entirely.

With the time saved from the cuts I would have completely redone the Rodan/Ang/KC fight having it take place in a city and would have taken the fight more seriously. Possibly having the Xilians throw their A-listers at Godzilla to where him down before having KG/Monster X and Gigan II go in for the final blow. I also would have had the fight ending with them being incapacitated.

Final battle would have been Godzilla and Mothra vs Monster X and Gigan. Godzilla defeats Monster-X who morphs into KG and swiftly defeats Godzilla. With the head space ship destroyed the incapacitated earth monsters are released and immediately attack the alien monsters. They fight a losing battle. Gotengo revives/super charges Godzilla. Godzilla defeats KG with Gigan being chased off into space. People think the earth monsters are going to fight again but they don't leading to standard monologue of "Godzilla and the monsters only fight when provoked maybe if humans tried to coexist yada yada yada)

Also Don Frye would have used his sword a 110% more than he did in the movie.

Call this a fan boy dream etc I still think it would have been more successful as a Godzilla movie.
