I think that's the whole point of GFW - It's just a movie to pass the time, to have fun for a little while and then go and do whatever you're thinking of doing afterwards....
I bet that if you think about it, you've looked back and laughed something that happened in the movie, like everyone speaking japanese to Don Frye and he answered in English instead of "Huh?!?"...I thought that was pretty funny and senseless......
After watching Azumi, and comparing it with GFW, I can see what Kitamura did - It was a film that regardless of bad publicity, would still be seen by the masses as a fun action flick. It's a pick-up-and-watch movie that's good for those days when you've got nothing better to do or need a little pick-me-up.
And about those B-Movie kaiju films - those really stunk.....I saw Reptillian on Sci-Fi once when I was a wee lad. Then 2-3 years later, I found out it was a remake of Korea's "Yonggary", so I saw it again......I have less respect for it, now that I can see the bad CG........
