Godzilla 2000 is now being compared to Monster Zero? It's final fight was compelling enough to make people think Godzilla would lose? We are talking about the first movie of the Millennium series, right? We're not talking about some movie I missed, are we?

It was sufficiently polarizing that the snarking back and forth about it was one of the main things that drove me away from the fan community for a decade or so.

GMK is an all right movie. Toho should have used the 3 original monsters planned for that movie. It was the first movie to mention the 1998 Godzilla, but it won't be until Godzilla: Final War, when we'll see that monster in a Toho movie. There should be a sequel where the 'demon' Godzilla of that movie attack America. I doubt it will happen but guys can dream, can't they?

Thats sounds cool. About this movie I felt truly sorry for Baragon during his fight and as for Godzilla...why cant they have this Godzilla in every movie? He was so brutal and determined and animalistic. Also scene wit that girl in the hospital when his tail hit her...anyone else laugh when she thought he left but then BAM tail whip?

There's more to Godzilla than being dark and broody. Dark and broody movies are not automatically more profound. They aren't an indicator of quality.

I think that the tone of a particular movie (how light or dark it is) and how Godzilla is portrayed as a character are two separate things.

I think the Godzilla series needs more movies with a dark and straightforward tone filled with various goofy elements and a heroic Godzilla, like Terror of Mechagodzilla.

Nor am I disputing that, but I think it's dangerous to assume something from words that don't match the meaning and go off on something completely different-- making your point have very little to do with what he said. Goth kids might look one way, but could very well act another.

"Brutal" and "animalistic" could easily describe Godzilla Raids Again, Mothra vs. Godzilla and plethora of Heisei flicks as well.

Reading Comfort Woman for my graduate classes, and it's pretty infuriating.

And one thing I could not help think of was GMK. They say Godzilla is the embodiment of Japan's Sins in WWII. A punishment. But are they clear about what sins?

Was Godzilla an embodiment of Japan being ashamed they lost? Embodiment of ignoring the WWII generation? Is he punishing Japan for the brutality they inflicted on the rest of Asia (really hoping its this lol).
