The Sony DVD doesn't have 100% accurate subs (though they're apparently *not* dubtitles), so he's probably not saying that exact line, Regardless, it's still a funny line.

Does he say that in the dub too? I honestly can't remember. I tried to stomach it once, and it's awfulness combined with the fact that I was watching FINAL WARS made it impossible for me to get through.

Too much Don Frye bashing.

Disregard.

PS- Come on, the guy that plays the X Controller is awesome.

The X Controller is indeed awesome because he's so delightfully evil. One of the only entertaining things about the movie. I just wish he wasn't so incredibly dense.

I honestly love Don Frye in this movie, but only in a so bad it's good fashion. He has great charisma despite lack of acting ability.

As for the rest of your review... well... I can't really argue against most of it.

Although I'm kind of afraid to watch it now. I last watched it, probably around 07 and still had fun with it... looks like you did too until now. You've worried me.

Although, I must ask, what about the movie made it disrespectful to the source? Especially after something like Megalon or Megaguirus or something.

As bad as GFW is, I do think it stays pretty faithful to the 70s era that it was meant to pay homage to. But the 70s era wasn't really the best era for Godzilla, so I guess that explains it.

I think Kitamura is one of those guys that is good when he's taking a project that requires him to be very restrained (Azumi, Sky High, Aragami, Midnight Meat Train, etc.), but when he gets too many toys to play with, he just loses it. He's like that student that only got As when he didn't have classes with his friends in them to distract him (ie me in high school).

I can't disagree either, I suppose, except much of what you find to be terrible makes me laugh and is therefore most of the film's appeal.

I saw you mentioned showing it to your father, see any time I've shown this to non-Godzilla fans they've loved it. In my experience it's been a 100% success rating, which is yet another strange thing about this film.

Glad to hear that 8 years later, the senseless bashing has leveled off to a degree. I've always loved GFW for what it was, an incredibly unique and deliberately insane entry in the series. It should, IMHO, be a cult classic even among non-fans. It's just that type of classic Raimi or Verhoeven -esque flick that needs more exposure. Maybe if it had a decent dub. :?

I think I might be the only person on Earth that remotely likes Keizer Ghidorah. It's one of the phoniest monster suits in the entire Toho canon and the design is much worse than the similar Desghidorah, but I like him. I also like the final battle between Godzilla and KG. I don't know, maybe I like it because Godzilla is actually being challenged. I can't explain it, but then, that's just the kind of movie FINAL WARS is.
