I decided to take some time out two evenings ago and I sat down and watched GMK again, this time with new, fresh subtitles from Tokyomonsters.com in leu of the Sony dubtitles (you're awesome, James!). Hoping to watch the movie with a new perspective, I came out with pretty much the same view on the film: It's definitely a well-made and ambitous Godzilla film with great special effects (mostly), though it isn't quite superb.
Anyway, I've had this question in my mind before, and it's been brought to the surface after watching GMK again: What souls were in the Yamato beasts? Yuri and Takeda, in a short scene (right before Yukijiro Hotoru discovers King Ghidorah sleeping), speculate that Isayama took souls that were contained in the shrine stones and transferred them into the monsters. Whose souls would these be? Did the ancient Japanese seperate the monsters' souls from their bodies and contain them in the stone statues, or are the Yamato beasts controlled by foreign souls like Godzilla is?
