R.I.P. eabaker

Toho Kingdom's forum manager Maritonic shared the incredibly tragic news of the very sudden passing of Evan Baker, who went by the username eabaker both on TK and here on MZ.

This is just awful. He and I never interacted directly very much but his posts were always a welcome contribution to the board. He was clearly an intelligent fellow with a genuine passion for filmmaking. What a terrible loss.

Dawn. He was a fixture - and I always appreciated the actual film knowledge he brought. Dawn. Way too young.

This is awful news. I didn't know him personally but I fondly remember his posts on the forums.

You know, ever since I was a kid I've thought about how I can see all of the Godzilla movies that have been made and I can see all of the new ones that get made in my lifetime but ultimately I won't be able to see every Godzilla movie that ever gets made. Godzilla will outlive all of us and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Obviously there are many more important considerations than Godzilla, but for such a terrible tragedy like this to happen just hours before Toho officially announced their next Godzilla movie, it does put the fleeting reality of life into perspective in a way that's unsettlingly relatable as a lifelong Godzilla fan. There's a new Japanese Godzilla movie coming a year from now, followed by a new Hollywood Godzilla movie just a few months later, and it really is sad that eabaker is no longer here to see them. All any of us can do is keep appreciating each day and be grateful every time we live long enough to see the next chapter in the endless Godzilla saga.
