i am planning on getting a custom gaming computer online because i am no good at putting things together and there is no place locally that can do it.

so i ask is this Configuration any good

I’m not terribly well educated on these things anymore, but I’ve recently been researching a new laptop to replace my decade+ old machine. I wasn’t set on any type of laptop, but looking at what I want to be able to do with it, I quickly realized that a gaming laptop would be ideal, even if I don’t plan on doing a ton of gaming (though I would do some).

Anyway, based on what little research I’ve done, I’d say go for more ram and a newer video card. I’d shoot for at least 16GB of ram with ports to add more in the future. And the GTX1060 video card is a bit outdated. There’s already a 1070 and 1080 in laptops. And apparently that whole line is already a generation behind. There’s a newer line of video cards for desktops that are supposed to be even better, but since they aren’t yet available in laptop form I don’t really know anything about them.

As I mentioned I’m quite behind on the tech, so I don’t know exactly what all the specs for your storage choices mean. It looks like maybe you’ve got all solid state hard drives for your internal storage? Those are great, obviously, but also expensive. A trend I’ve seen in laptops is to have a much larger traditional magnetic disc hard drive with a smaller solid state drive. In decent laptops it’s typically a 256GB solid state drive with a 1TB or larger regular hard drive. As far as I know the main reason to do it this way is cost savings. I’m sure on a desktop you could do something similar but with even more storage for the same price.

Anyway, more ram and a newer video card would be the first two things I’d look at if you’ve got wiggle room to play with your specs. And again, I’m way out of date on this stuff so I may be completely wrong for all I know!

I haven't been keeping up but you'll want to double the RAM at least

The RAM could be better as could the graphics card. Depending on the games you want to play, you may want to do a 250GB SSD and a 2TB or higher normal HDD. Use the 250GB SSD for your OS (Windows 10 etc.) and open world games like The Witcher 3, Skyrim, etc etc.


Other than that the system isn't too bad.
