Not sure where this topic belonged since it is not movies or T.V. (mods, we need a musicals category! ).

After a couple of years in Australia, King Kong the musical is finally going to make its Broadway debut in the Fall of 2018.



The puppets and animatronics are going to be handled by Sonny Tilders, who I understand has done some spectacular work on other live shows such as "Walking with Dinosaurs" and "How to Train your Dragon".

Any song writers out there, I suggest go write some kaiju material, submit it to Toho and thus we can have Godzilla debuting on Broadway as well!

The footage I've seen of the giant Kong puppet is amazing. It'd be incredible to see live.

I wonder how substantially retooled the story/music is from the original Australian run?

I saw the Walking With Dinosaurs live show years ago in Saint Paul. It was really really neat. I'd totally be into seeing a King Kong live show by the same creative team.

*insert comment about how ironic it is to bring King Kong to Broadway for a show*

As for that Godzilla at the Olympics thing, either have him "eat" the torch runner & then light the big flame himself, or have him stomp the torch at the closing ceremonies.

Still think the torch person should come into the stadium riding Kanada's bike & do the famous power slide.

Since the Walking With Dinosaurs/How to Train Your Dragon guys are working on it hopefully it means more monsters on Skull Island. To my knowledge the Australian version just had a giant snake, alá Kong '76.

I looked at a video of some of the effects on King Kong the Musical, and they looked pretty impressive.
Not quite as impressive as those Walking With Dinosaurs/How To Train Your Dragon ones.

Man, I wish I had known the Walking with Dinosaurs thing was that cool looking.
Cedar Park Center (AKA HEB Center) isn't that far away...maybe it will come back sometime.

Any New Yorkers out there? It looks like one can now purchase tickets for King Kong the Musical, which is debuting on Nov. 2018. Who will be our Broadway reviewer!

Carl Denham's dream, finally realized!

Well, today is the grand opening. I wonder of the marquee will read "Carl Denhem's Giant Monster"? Since I doubt I will ever see it on Broadway, I am hoping that Fandango, will have one of those "special presentation" showings on the big screen. Of course, this thing could also be a bust and be done in a couple of weeks!

Well, here was a brief live performance of the Kong musical that I understand was played for the Thanksgiving Day Parade audience on CBS.



It looks like it has been getting its share of drubbing by the Broadway critics, but audiences seem to be enjoying it:

^ The puppet is amazing. No matter what the critical reception folks would still want to see Kong.

It looks like "CBS This Morning: Saturday" did an inside piece on the King Kong Broadway musical, which included clips of past Kong movies, and yes even "King Kong vs. Godzilla".



Not going to NYC any time soon. Perhaps it will play out somewhere on T.V. I believe Bryd and Matt did a review on this recently on their podcast -

Well, it looks like this musical will be coming to a close on August 18th



Curious if anyone here had a chance to see it? If not then, if you are in Shanghai in 2021, it will start production over there. A North American, Japanese and Spanish tours are also being planned (if there is a chance that it will come to the L.A. area, then I might give it a look).

I've heard good enough things about the actual production and the puppet to want to check it out if it were convenient and affordable, but bad enough things about the....everything else, to feel comfortable passing on it if it doesn't hit those two qualifications.
