Well, the anime expo thingy whateveritis is only a few days away, so we'll be able to rule that stuff out as a prank. Wasn't Shin Godzilla announced on April 1? Maybe they'll actually have real news on that day? Maybe they'll alternate between real and fake announcements on that day from now on?

The fake announcement and pics for a kamata-kun smartphone was the prank for this year. Needless to say, it was far too jokey to gain traction as a really convincing prank.
The actual news, a behind-the-scenes video for the anime, was much cooler.
