Funny you bring this topic up because next week will be the first time I have ever cosplayed.

Back in the 90s I wore a home made star trek uniform to a SciFi convention... Someone asked me what starship I was from as soon as I walked in, but I hadn't even considered a back story or a character so I just said the USS Toyota Camry :)

I used to do some at cons and of course Halloween with either my Godzilla suit I used to have or my Klingon costume. This Halloween I'll be dressing like the Fourth Doctor.

I've cosplayed twice in my life.
Once as The Joker at a convention
and the 2nd was as Ebirah at G-Fest 2010.

A few years ago I went as Snakes on a Plane for Halloween. Got some grey sweat pants and shirt, wrote out Pan Pacific Flight whatever it was on some tape on my side, got a bag of little plastic snake and pinned them on, and then sewed on the McFarlane Sam Jackson Shaft figure to my chest. It was one of my most novel costumes I've ever come up with. My friends also would dress up the little circular urn that hold some of our friend Dan's ashes as well. One year we tapped a Mr Potato head mustache and Woody from Toy Story's hat and had him go as Burt Reynolds, another year we wrapped it in blue paper and painted a white M on it for an M&M, another we taped a Friday the 13th Jason Mask belt buckle to it along with a butter knife.

Oh yeah, here is the costume I wore at NDK last weekend. It is Barnaby from Tiger & Bunny:

Lets see.

3 years ago I was District Atourney Harvey Dent (basically wore a suit).
Last year I went as a movie version of Arthur Dent (with the closest pajama pants I could find).

About 7 years ago I went to Sakuracon (when I lived near Seattle) as Joesph Carter (AKA Mr. Joker from the anime/manga Read Or Die).

I have gone to the local Renisance fair in my costume.
Which is a mix of Dread Pirate Roberts/Jedi Luke (basically all black).
Might switch it up soon & change part of it to a different shirt color.

If you are curious, here's a picture of myself as Mr. Joker.
Note I was rather chunky back then, I have lost quite a bit of the fat.

Back when I lived in Georgia, I went to a couple (like 3) LARP events.
It was a group called SOLAR, which met at Hard Labor Creek, GA.
That's where they filmed the original Friday the 13th movie BTW.
So we had people as monsters sometimes wearing hockey masks...

That was over 15 years ago, not sure if I could handle it anymore.
I got to level 5 or so. Mostly kinda "cheated" by keeping some of the money they used for experience points.
They gave it to you when you played a monster (which was one of the required jobs to stay there).
The other jobs were cleaning the campsite, or cooking food.
So 95% of people just did monsters. Everybody else was doing the cheating thing.
Only problem was since my outfit is all black, it was really hot.
A few people got heat stroke, and if I had kept it up all weekend I would have as well.
Thankfully I was prepared, and brought Gatorade & food (breakfast wasn't cheap, and it was usually kinda badly cooked).
