Turns out my family does not have to move. We were worried that the previous tenants who were out of country were coming back (it was an uneasy verbal agreement we made), but it turns out they are settling in TX with other family. This place we love, we don't have to leave, and now we are free to convert the garage to an additional bedroom

.
On top of my wife's Breast Cancer, and starting a new job today, getting ready to move was just adding to the anxiety. This was a HUGE win for us. Also, my wife's surgery is scheduled for this Friday. I've been given whatever time off I need to help her recover. Also it will all be done in one operation, instead of 2 as we previously thought was going to happen. She will still have radiation afterwords, but now, with our housing situation stable, we can fully concentrate on getting my wife healthy again.

Had a bunch of time off recently and took advantage by absolutely gorging myself on my favorite movies. Saw a late night double bill of Gojira ('54) and Destroy All Monsters, took my kids to a Godzilla vs Megalon cereal party at the Alamo Drafthouse, saw Godzilla King of the Monsters twice, introduced my kids to the original Star Wars trilogy (they had seen A New Hope once back in February) with the amazing fan-made 4K restorations of the original versions, and watched Godzilla vs The Thing with the kids yesterday afternoon. All within the span of about a week and a half. Plus we took the kids to see the Battleship Texas, swimming at a hotel, and had two really fun long bike rides with my older kid. It's been a great start to the summer!

My wife continues to recover nicely from her surgery. We got the pathology results yesterday, and they were all negative. No cancer remaining, which was such a relief to hear. So, no more chemo or surgery for her. She still does have to do radiation, in a few weeks, for a few weeks, but the worst is over. She will have to have checkups every 6 months for the next 2 years, but that is infinity preferable to the alternative. Yesterday was a god day.

I found being without this place more depressing than the pandemic.

During the pandemic I lost a hundred pounds and learned to cook
Not to brag or anything; I also spent a lot of time depressed or feeling like I was losing my mind like everyone else!

Wow, that's amazing. I don't know if I could lose a tenth of that to save my life.

^ So much of it has been cutting sugary drinks for seltzer and getting low calorie substitutes for all the nervous/depressed/anxious snacking I invariably do.

Yes, seeing that this board is usable again definitely made my 4th of July. DannyBeane, thank you so much for figuring out how to post on here again.

My pleasure Benjamin. I've been working on this diligently ever since I saw MSY3 could edit. I kept trying to replicate his ability to edit. So I tried messaging him, adding him as a friend, saving my posts before posting etc. Then a few days ago I thought I wonder if I disabled my signature if it would help. I disabled everything just in case and it worked! After doing a few more tests I narrowed down what needed to be disabled and the rest was history. Even though the board is still functionally dead I'm impressed with all the people who have stopped by and posted!

I went to my local art museum to see some animation exhibit that had one day to go before leaving. Just happened to check the museum's site and see it was here, didn't see advertising or anything.
Good lord. I was blown away; cells, pencil animation drawings, storyboard art, concept art, design sheets, stop-motion props, Tex Avery's desk?! Stuff from classic Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, Fantastia, Snow White, The Simpsons, Hanna-Barbera, Ralph Bakshi, Richard Williams, Heavy Metal - actual cells from Akira and Princess Mononoke! An actual piece of Gertie the Dinosaur hand drawn by Winsor McKay!
The King Kong and Ymir weren't original. Kong was a replica of the existing armature and the Ymir was a sculpture made using the original mold. Still, because I am who I am they were favorites.
I took pictures!

I now have cell phone service again for the first time since Friday afternoon, when Hurricane Helene wiped out the cell and internet service for all of western North Carolina. We were very fortunate this far out in the mountains where the terrain is so sloped, compared to Asheville and the surrounding communities that were devastated by flooding. We didn't lose power and our home wasn't flooded. Our whole county has been on a boil-water advisory since Friday because the local water treatment plant is still overwhelmed. Our internet service is still out but the cell phone service returned earlier this evening, so I'm able to use mobile data to access the internet on my phone.
