My wife has got the website for our first feature-length movie up and running!

Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

Made a day trip to Atlanta to take my sister to something she'd been wanting to see: an exhibit of props and costumes from Jim Henson's Labyrinth, one of her favorite films, at the Center for Puppetry Arts. The Labyrinth exhibit was neat: a room featuring various goblins, weapons, ballroom gowns, and even Bowie's costume from the end of the movie. It was fun - but we didn't know that this was just a sliver of an otherwise much larger Jim Henson exhibit across the hall featuring puppets, props, and concept art for everything from Henson's earliest TV work to Muppet productions done after Henson's death. Practically every major muppet from The Muppets and Sesame Street was on display, labeled to describe who designed that character, the materials used to make it, and what production this puppet or costume was made for (a couple were produced just for display while others dated to the earliest days of Sesame Street and The Muppet Show and everything in between). TV specials were represented, there were a selection of Fraggles, and then a whole lot of stuff from The Dark Crystal, including the original suits for a Skeksis and Aughra! At the end were a few things from Labyrinth that didn't fit in the Labyrinth room, namely the doors: the living door knocker and it's door, plus both of the riddle doors with the built in dog guard guys.

The permanent part of the museum was nifty as well: puppets from all over the world, many of which were very old: a set of traditional Punch & Judy characters, traditional Japanese puppets from the 1800s, some early Taiwanese 'action' puppets (the kind that would eventually inspire Pili), traditional African puppets with props from the Broadway production of Lion King they inspired beside them, the lead characters from The Corpse Bride and Coraline were there, and even a Gumby and Pokey were on display.

Any fan of Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas would be delighted by the exhibit.

Favorite bit (besides the Skeksis and Aughra) was the dog from The Storyteller and having to explain to my sister what The Storyteller is.

That's cool. I saw a similar Henson/Muppets exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago years ago. It was really cool to see all those puppets and props in person. Best thing about that day? It was free admission day at the museum!

A couple of weeks ago, the production company I'm with now introduced Cocktail Fridays.

Now, one of our shows is introducing Wine and Cheese Fridays.

And after work, I'm off to the wrap party for a shoot I AD'd, which means even more free booze!

The Houston Astros.
2-0 in the ALDS. One win away from the next round. It's exciting, something to take the city's mind off of the devastation of Harvey and get everyone happy about something. Also, I've watched this team come together over the years I've been in this city, having seen every single player on the team's first game as an Astro, and it's cool to see them having success. They're a young, fun group and I'd love to see them keep going and win the World Series. Here's hoping.

There's a compilation on Amazon Prime that's all the commercials shown during the intermissions at drive in theaters from the '50s through the '80s.

If I'm to believe these, there's a ton of stuff available at the concession stand.

Had another birthday recently. We celebrated this weekend. Wife and kids threw me a little Godzilla themed party (and gave me the awesome S.H. MonsterArts Godzilla ‘54 - more on that in the toy sub forum). Then my dad came to town and we all went to the Wings Over Houston Airshow yesterday and had dinner at the Houston Aquarium on the way home last night. It was my kids’ first airshow, which was fun, and the aquarium restaurant was amazingly cool. We ALL loved it, but the kiddos especially so. It’s been a really great weekend.

Yesterday was the first day I didn’t watch any movies at all, but it’s because I was at the best baseball game ever.
Down 4-0, then tied, then down 7-4, then tied then down 8-7, then up 11-8, then 11-9, 12-9, then tied then game winning hit in the 10th inning. Wild and unbelievably fun.

^ Wow an Astros fan, always wanted to meet one  . But seriously, as an Oakland A's fan, I tip my hat to your team, and hope they do win. I'm just curious. 4 years ago when they were forced to transfer to the AL West what were your thoughts? I knew for years we had to get another team in our division to make things even, but I always figured it would be the D'backs or Colorado. I know Houston had a couple rough years, but they have definitely risen to the occasion, and now one win away from winning it all for the first time in franchise history. That's pretty impressive. I hope you get to post more in this thread about your team.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the move for a few reasons:
1.) I tend to prefer NL ball. When pitchers have to bat, managers have to be more creative with base running and scoring.
2.) The changes it would require that I thought would really set the team back (ultimately this wound up not being a huge concern, but you build teams differently in the two different leagues and I figured this would require massive turnover in the farm system and everything)
3.) Moving into the WESTERN conference from the Central. Trips out there suck when the games aren’t even starting here until like 9:15 at night.

Obviously it ultimately seems like it’s gonna work out pretty darn okay though.

Yeah, we don't like to get political here, but today my home state wasn't a national embarrassment and I am very happy.

^It's messed up that "we didn't elect the pedophile who thought America was at its best when we had slavery" is seen as such an achievement and not just a baseline of decency, but I'll take what I can get!

Nice! My wife worked in non profit for years. I’d highly recommend going Lockheed Martin unless your girl really has a very strong desire to work for a particular non profit organization.

Plus... Lockheed Martin! Skunk Works! Batpoop crazy top secret military airplanes and stuff! I know it’s unlikely the job she was offered has anything to do with any of that, but still... it’s flipping cool!

So she learned that she will get health insurance with Lockheed Martin, so that made the decision easier. She starts Jan 8th.
