Creepshow - Man, I love this one.
-Father's Day might be the only one that doesn't really work for me, but by the time you get to the end you forget it ever fell flat at all. The one thing about Father's Day that's interesting though is that NONE of the characters are particularly likeable people (except maybe Ed Harris) and ALL of them (including Nathan) totally deserved the horrible deaths they got.
-The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill is one of my favorites, though I'll say that it works DESPITE King's poor acting rather than BECAUSE of it and I think that Romero/King intended it to works BECAUSE of the poor acting...but it's probably the scariest one of them all, as the idea of suffering as badly as Jordy does with nobody around to help gives me the willies
-Something to Tide You Over, well...who woulda EVER thought that Leslie Nielsen could be intimidating and work as a bad guy? but man is he ruthless
-The Crate is my other favorite. Possibly because of my love affair with creature features but I just love this one, I love all of Henry's mental killings of his wife and I just love everything about this.
-They're Creeping Up on You is PERFECT for scaring the bejesus outta people who hate bugs. It can rival ANY bug-flick out there but there's a general lack of story here that makes this one just go for the gross-out and not much more
Plus the comeuppance on the dad at the end is awesome.
I also watched 30 Days of Night - while a neat concept, I thought it was executed pretty poorly...it didn't really FEEL like they'd been cowering and hiding for 30 Days at all...nobody was starving, or tired, or dehydrated, or anything of any sort along those lines. The creepy guy is well done, at first, but I just don't think it was ever really developed well at all they never EXPLAIN or even ATTEMPT to explain WHY the creepy guy did the things that he did and it's not like the movie pushed the limits of time and adding that woulda drawn things out.... Also, Hartnett makes that big speech about how they CHOOSE to live in this town and they can use the COLD to their advantage and then....they NEVER do and it just becomes 'hey, if i was as STRONG as them I could win' - <sigh>. They only ever HINT at WHY stella and eben MAY have disliked each other and been estranged (so in general, NO CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT). I also would have liked some - WOAH can't see anything type of claustrophobic stuff...but sadly, a movie titled 30 Days of NIGHT offers the ability to see EVERYTHING...I could go on, but basically, it was a decent enough watch - good for an 'if it's on and nothing else is' type of day, or with friends or if you're sippin on grampa's cough medicine, but by no means a good movie
