Cormac McCarthy's The Road - After seeing No Country For Old Men twice, I felt like trying one of McCarthy's books to see if I liked it. This one's about a father and a son surviving in post-apacolyptic America and it's hopelessly depressing. I'm really liking it, though. I'm halfway through and a scene where they stumble into a cellar where people are being kept for food had me on the edge of my seat.
Also reading "Killing Johnny Frye" by Walter Mosley. I love Mosley's stuff, though this one isn't far away from being a straightforward pornographic novel. Still, the main character goes through a period of transformation, redefining what he wants in his career and cutting this ties from his old girlfriend; it's actually pretty motivating to read about this guy's liberation.
