I went snorkeling with stingrays and was able to pet them in Grand Cayman. You do have to be careful, to pet them from the underside and not come down or touch them from above, but our tour guide said he only had one person get stung in 10 years. So I'm a little freaked out by this, partly because stingrays are so innocuous compared to some of the other animals he cavorted with, and partly because I survived them and he didn't.

RIP Steve Irwin. Crikey, indeed.

My mother told me about his death earlier today. Very saddening...

RIP Steve Irwin - we're going to miss you.

I used to always be a big detractor of Irwin. I was always annoyed by the fact that he seemed to go out of his way to handle tons of animals that simply didn't want to be bothered. But as I watched some of his show within recent years, and found out how much work he had put into his animal sanctuary, I gained a lot of respect for him.

Creepily enough, I was watching several weeks ago and I couldn't help but postulate to myself that "It's a wonder Steve hasn't been killed with all the stuff he does.." :(

God bless and protect him, his family, and the work he left behind.

September has definetly gotten off a very bad start. I was a huge fan of his work, and his devotion to animals was unbelivable. I doubt there'll ever be another person like him.

Rest in peace, Steve Irwin. Crocs rule.
