I've seen the original PP, and 'Shot in the Dark', (As well as the awful 'Son of the Pink Panther'). While I think that Peter Sellers is very talented, both film's sense of humor simply weren't to my taste. Not bad, just not to my liking.
The Marx Brothers sort of land in a similar vein with me. I understand that most of their schtick harkens back to Vaudeville, and I appreciate what they do, but some of their work is hit and miss with me. Duck Soup is the best of the lot. Good stuff.
