I didn't know the movie was a novel adaptation, I'll have to track it down to read. Although, judging by the cover in the Wikipedia article, if I ever saw it in the library sci-fi section I most likely would have picked it up to see what it was about and then read -- so maybe I did read it when I was younger and have forgotten.

Now all you need to do is bring Mitsuteru Yokoyama's Tetsujin 28/Gigantor into the mix of iron men.

Its title was changed in the 60s though, so, well before it was adapted to film.

Have started (rather late, really) my Halloween viewing with Frankenstein (1931), Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979), and Mad Love (1935).

Die Another Day - We have finally come to the end of Brosnan's era and what a stinker this is. Thankfully, it is a slight improvement over the last one as at least Berry is somewhat believable as a secret agent compared to that joke from the previous one. Nevertheless, the movie is still boring as all hell, especially after the really cool intro scene when Bond is being tortured. Oh, but Michael Madsen is awesome for the whole 4 minutes he is in it. Overall, it gets a 4/10.

Halloween 4 - A decent follow up to bring Myers back. It does have some great moments of suspense and cool death scenes. Also Jaime's actress is really really good for being 8. Unfortunately, it is hindered by a garbage mask for Michael (well okay, he had to grab what he could from the store, but from a visual perspective, it is dumb looking) and the ever changing scar on Loomis' face. Nevertheless, it is one of the better sequels out there, so I give it a 6/10.

Halloween 5 - There are parts I enjoy in this one and there are parts I hate. Tina's voice is just so god damn annoying. The whole plot with Jaime not actually going psycho is a complete cop out and the telepathy is lame as hell. Nevertheless, the death scene are cool, the music is good, and I do like the ending despite it being a cliffhanger. The biggest problem though is the movie is about 15 minutes way too long, dragging its score down to a 5/10.

Nightmare on Elm Street 4 - This wasn't as bad as I remember it being, but it still isn't great. Killing off the cast of the previous movie was insulting when they couldn't even be bothered to bring Patricia Arquette back. It just completely ruins continuity and also screws up her character because the mannerisms were not even remotely similar. The idea that Freddy needs to go after new kids was interesting, and I do like the dream sequences, but some of them were way too short. That aside, Freddy is losing his scare factor and becoming a joke. I give it a 5/10.

^ I really dislike Die Another Day. I did watch November Man the other day, which features Pierce Bronsnan as a CIA operative. There was a solid twist I didn't see coming despite all the clues the story lays throughout the entire film.

Nightmare on Elm Street 5 - Good god, what did I watch? The plot was utterly so damn stupid. It felt like they just rehashed the plot of the second movie, but tried to have there be a reason for it working this time instead of doing something different. Except for the comic book dream, the death scenes were bland as hell as they are clearly out of ideas. Of course, I only like the comic book scene because of its black and white scenery and I am a comic book fan. However, it was way too over the top and goofy to be in a horror movie, which means it failed on being scary. Hell, it wasn't even suspenseful. They should have done something more in tone to a Tales from the Crypt comic or something over a super hero one. Alice is really the only thing holding this movie together. Even the whole Amanda plot was resolved way too quickly and easily without any effort involved. This movie sucks and is worse than the second one. I give it a 3/10.

I watched The Martian last night. Its definitely a fun film. Matt Damon has a lot of charisma in it. I saw it in 3-D and the 3-D was well realized.

I saw The Martian yesterday too. Really enjoyed it. Admittedly, I'm a sucker for stories about space exploration (especially when they make a genuine effort to get the science right). I felt the dialogue was a little weak at times (usually when they tried to make nasa management and engineers sound cool and like "real people" by having them talk like 20-something college kids rather than the incredibly smart nerds that they generally tend to be in real life*). And I thought the china bit felt kinda shoehorned in there just to get the Chinese market share without actually doing anything for the story. But overall it was very enjoyable and Matt Damon did a great job. Would definately watch it again. Oh, and I LOVED the ! It had me cracking up - and is MUCH more accurate and believable dialogue than some of the other stuff I mentioned above!

*as a professional (and huge nerd myself) in the aviation industry I can say this based on personal experience interacting with these types of people. And it's not an insult, just honesty.

The Creature from the Black Lagoon- I picked up the BD release the other day because it was on sale at my work ($7.50). I decided to watch the 3D version and the 3D was pretty good in some areas (when they find the fossil gill man arm) also the BD print is AMAZING. If you don't have this already pick up the BD.

Cheap theater for Pixels & Mission Impossible 5.
Pixels was better than I thought.
MI 5 was decent.

Hotel Transylvania 2 at the normal theater (used my last free pass).
Was cute, but dragged a bit when they were trying to force the kid to change.

LEGO DC Superheroes Attack of the Legion of Doom, and Mad Max Fury Road via Redbox.
The LEGO movie was amusing, Mad Max was great.

Freddy's Dead - Was this supposed to be a horror movie or Looney Tunes Featuring Freddy? Good god this movie was just flat out stupid. The only line I actually liked was when the nameless kid is on the bed and says, "Nothing is going to make me get off of this bed!" and it starts on fire and he just screams, "DAMMIT!" before jumping off of it. The whole thing was just so damn stupid and the town just suddenly being abandoned was dumb as all ****ing hell. Now he has a daughter that no one ever talked about? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. It would have been a much more interesting movie had it been that Freddy's powers got so powerful that it affected anyone who was living in Springwood, which would have been a far better reason for people leaving other than just because. I give this pile of **** a 2/10.

New Nightmare - Probably the best sequel in the entire franchise, but still far from perfect. I love how the majority of the actors are playing themselves and how it establishes that Freddy was an actual demon that was trapped in the movies. Unfortunately, the movie just drags on way too many times as it is a good 20 minutes too long. I do like this incarnation of Freddy quite a bit as he looks down right demonic, however, we didn't get enough of him. Also, Heather clearly had her shields turned on because she should have been out when she got hit by that car. Instead, she just gets right back up and runs off like nothing happened. Overall, I give it a 7/10 stars.

Goosebumps - If you grew up in the 90s you most likely know at least the basics of Goosebumps. It's basically a bunch of horror stories written for all ages to enjoy. The movie itself is like a love letter to the books. It's plot is pretty much like Jumanji, but with the Goosebumps monsters and it. As a whole, the movie is quite fun and Jack Black did a fantastic job as RL Stine. The movie does a nice job of building up to the events of the main story and it feels like an actual Goosebumps book. There is so much fanservice to those who have read the books and stuff in there to keep all ages in enjoyment. Overall, I give it a 7/10. Oh, we saw it in 3D because it was cheaper and there is no reason to see it in 3D as there is nothing mind blowing about it.

Casino Royale - This was my first Bond film and it is still one of the best films of the entire franchise. The parkour chase scene towards the beginning is just down right amazing and I love that they kept the torture scene from the book towards the end of the movie. It does a fantastic job at rebooting the universe without making it feel forced and what not. Easily a 9/10.

Quantum of Solace - Well Craig's career went downhill fast. Okay, not really, but compared to CR, this movie blows. It just has way too much action, shaky cam, and crap to really feel like a Bond movie. Yet, if it wasn't a Bond movie, it would just be another generic forgettable action movie. The opera house scene is easily the best scene of the entire movie and ultimately saves the movie from being a total waste of time. The plot is blah and the villains are extremely lackluster, but Bond kicks ass. It gets a 6/10, but it is far better than nearly anything Moore and Brosnan did.

I'm a little worried about "fanservice" in Goosebumps. It's been YEARS since I've even peeked at a Goosebumps book. I remember a lot of the monsters, but not really much of anything about them or the way they are ultimately defeated.
