The Snake That Swallowed Its Tail: Some Contradictions in Modern Liberalism by Mark Garnett.

Went to a series of lectures in Oxford on Friday, so I'm in 'philosopher' mode at the moment. Hence why I hope to move on to Plato's The Republic after I've got my way through this one. Anyone know what I'm in for?

The Lone Samurai: The Life of Miyamoto Musashi by William Scott Wilson

A neat biography of an extraordinary warrior & artist. if you're interested in Samurai or japanese history, i highly reccommend it. Musashi is easily one of the most famous swordsmen to live & this is a very well written account of his life & ideology. the accounts of some of his encounters with other samurai are very engaging & well done. it almost makes you feel like you're there experiencing it firsthand.

Blind Man's Bluff an episodic account of wacky things submariners did during the Cold War, but of course you realize the underwater spying is still going on right now.

Ole' Dostoyevsky's a bit dense and long. I have nothing against that but I hate to be reading one thing for too long so I'm taking a break and going into The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett.

Just finished re-reading Edgar Rice Burroughs's A Princess of Mars - an awesome science-fiction story, I highly recommend it and the rest of ERB's Barsoom trilogy [ The Gods of Mars, and The Warlord of Mars ].

Stupid Paramount - they were this close to finally getting the book adapted into a movie then some of their executives killed it so they could make another Star Trek film [and from what I can tell it isn't exactly being welcomed with open arms by the fan community].

Just finished The Gods of Mars a couple days ago and am currently reading The Warlord of Mars.

Once I'm done with Warlord - I think I'll read Vol. 3 of the Anthony Tollin- Nostalgia Venture Doc Savage reprints. Each volume has 2 full stories - in this case Death in Silver and The Golden Peril.

Haven't posted on here in a while so my list is long. Let's see here...

Finished - The Devil's Web by Pat Pulling ::shudder:: The stupidity almost felt infectious.

Finished - Follies of the Wise: Dissenting Essays by Frederick Crews

Finished - Who Wrote the Bible by Richard Elliot Freidman

Finished - God's Problem- How the Bible Fails to Answer the Most Important Question: Why We Suffer by Bart D. Ehrman

Finished - Paranormal Claims - Edited by Bryan Farha

I've just recently started on How We Know It Isn't So - The Fallibility of Human Reason in Everyday Life by Thomas Gilovich, and, on the fiction side of things, I'm almost done with Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay.

I've also been perusing through a Josh McDowell culture war number called Right From Wrong, but McDowell isn't nearly as interesting when he isn't making transparently fallacious arguments about archeology.

...about to start Good as Gold by Joseph Heller. The last book of his I read, Something Happened, was a horrible read. I mean that in a good way. It's amazing in that he made a book about what is essentially mundane suburband life (albiet with lots of angst, infidelity, and life baggage) and made it so brutal and epic.

I here this one is more in the style of Catch-22 though, so it should be smoother sailing.

I'm trying to read A Feast For Crows again, since it's seeming like GRRM is making really good progress on A Dance With Dragons. I'm actually going to use the dragon on the upcoming book cover in my half-sleeve. :)
