Well I watched Crystal Skull and honestly, I don't think it is a terrible movie. It isn't a very good movie, I hate Shia in every scene he is in, I hate his character, but the movie as a whole is not an insult. I think the alien plot works only because aliens were a big obsession during the 50s, while the occult was a big thing in the 30s. However, I feel the movie just isn't as interesting without the occult involved in some manner because it was the mysticism and mythology of the backstories that kept you involved in the older movies. With this, there is no mythology or mystery that engages the audience, it just goes through the motions of going from point a to point b to point c and that is it.

Daimajin

Samurai movies are awesome, kaiju movies are awesome - pretty cool it only took 12 years into the kaiju genre for someone to figure out the genius idea of combining them. The first hour (the setup) is pretty strong by itself, and it would be a decent flick if they just replaced the supernatural stuff with some master swordsman character or something. The director did do some great Zatoichi flicks, after all. But, of course, it's the metric ton of awesome that is Majin that takes to the next level and makes the film something special.

I think maybe the special effects are more polished in the next two films, but you really get a savageness from Majin in this one that makes it the best.

Logan's Run

First time seeing this movie. Really great first half. The last act draws on for a long time.

What's the reason I finally sought this classic out? Why, none other than Jenny Agutter who might just be the most attractive woman of all time in my book. :D

Yeah, Logan's Run kind of runs out of energy after so long.

I love the cat guy, though.

Samurai III: Duel at Ganryu Island

The saga comes to a close and I can't help but find this classic trilogy sorely lacking. I mean, I've seen much better samurai films. Still, liked the photography with the final battle

...and, if it just me, or does he basically cheat in said final battle?

I think the 2nd and third films of this trilogy are both lacking. The book is MUCH better...

^I was disappointed with the first film's lack of proper samurai stuff, but in retrospect it's the best film of the trilogy by far. The other two seem like they were much more quickly (cheaply?) made.

Plus, the 2nd film has soooo much boring exposisition and political crap. None of the films are really proper samurai films. Granted, the book is more a character study of Musashi so it's by no means a action oriented book...at over 1000 pages it's still better paced than the film version.

The Dark Knight Returns: Part One
Pretty good. A straight adaption more or less. I prefer The Dark Knight Rises to Returns as a story that kinda covers the same ground but it's a servicable way to spend an hour an a half ish.

The Apartment

One of my favorite films. A wonderful combination of comedy (both character-based and a satire of workplace politics) and romantic drama (with tragic elements). I love Billy Wilder, I love Jack Lemmon and Shirley McClaine in this. I'm so jealous of Wilder's ear for wonderful dialogue - he wasn't even a native English speaker! That's just showing off!

Film looks terrific on Blu-Ray, too.
