Ghostbusters - don't get me wrong, i LOVE Ghostbusters, but what I don't understand is how so many people can love Ghostbusters, and then call Godzilla films cheesy or say the effects in them are garbage...the effects in a lot of the Godzilla films are up to snuff if not even better than Ghostbusters, which has some slipshod effects along the way.

John Carter. It was okay, I had some minor issues with it, but mostly it just didn't do anything spectacular. It just, kind of, was.

South Pacific

Part of my desire to educate myself about different kinds of films to become a fully rounded movie buff. Today's installment: major movie musicals (a bit of a blind spot), and you can't get more major than Rogers and Hammerstein.

It took a little while to get into it, but I was really invested by the end. Liked the anti-racial prejudice message, but the film's actual depiction of indigenous people is about as advanced as in a '50s Uncle Scrooge comic. "Bali Hai" and "Happy Talk" are two songs that are gonna be stuck in my head for a long, long time.

21 Jump St

I really didn't know until the last moment I was seeing this as my bro and few of my friends dragged me along. The whole time I thought we were going to see John Carter, but oh well. Anyway, this movie wasn't too bad as I thought I would be. It has almost the same humor as Horrible Bosses which I thought was hilarious. So you can expect me to be the idiot laughing really hard with this film, which I did. :P The story wasn't new though. Story could be seen in a Disney maybe, just this one has that adult-crude humor twist to it, which I thought worked well.

Overall, 3.5/5 :)

Now I did see the previews before the film, and the Dark Shadows was one of them, which does look pretty interesting. The Raven was also one of them, but I have my doubts on that one.
uhh...

John Carter (of Mars)

Loved it. As time goes by I become more and more disappointed by blockbuster films as a whole, but I really liked this one.

... can any fan tell me what the best editions of the books currently available are?

Casablanca

TCM and Fathom Events did a live stream of the film in movie theaters across the country last night. It was great! The theater was almost full and the audience was great; laughing at all the right parts, quiet at others, and thundering applause at the end!

I hope they do this again. I'd love to see The Adventures of Robin Hood or a Marx Brothers movie like this!

Buried - I'm just kinda slowly goin through all the blu rays I bought at Blockbuster recently and checking them out.
My opinion on this film is basically the same. It's a solid minimalist thriller. Not perfect, but not a bad way to spend an hour and a half.

For All Mankind (1989)- This is possibly the BEST adventure film I've ever seen. Because it's all REAL! This an amazing documentary about the NASA moon missions. What really sets it apart is the way that Director Al Reinert approaches the subject. He doesn't seperate each individual mission or the individual astronauts or anything really. His approach looks at this as one BIG journey and it really does a great job of bringing you along for the ride. It captures the sense of awe and wonder of actually traveling to the moon like nothing I've ever seen. I can't recommend this film enough! Especially if you appreciate aviation, space travel, or (probably most importantly) the adventure of exploration!

I watched it on the Criterion bluray (which I bought sight unseen just b/c it sounded neat, boy did I get a treat!). They've done, as usual, a spectacular job with the presentation. I felt like I was watching an actual 35mm print of this documentary in my own home. And the supplements are equally great. After watching the movie last night, I dove into the supplements today & watched them all in one sitting (save the audio commentary, which I'll probably get to shortly)! They were that good!

We really need to get on with going to Mars...

Destroy All Monsters

Finally watched the AIP dubbed version on MB's Blu-Ray. Besides the first two minutes the audio is adequate. It's certainly not unwatchable, as some have said. Anyway, the well done dub does add a little more fun to the human drama (which I've always found a bit bland in this installment). Of course, the monster scenes are a whole lot of fun!

Defendor

The ads on Crackle.com made this out like it was supposed to be a comedy. I found virtually nothing funny about this movie. It tells the story of a mentally handicapped person (Woody Harrelson) who masquerades as a superhero searching for "Captain Industry" (watch the movie; you'll get it) because he doesn't know any better. He befriends a prostitute (Kat Dennings), and she supplies him info about a drug dealer she tells him is Captain Industry.

Kind of sounds like I was disappointed, huh? Quite the opposite: I really liked it. It was quite touching; I had sympathy for the characters and their respective predicaments. The acting was good on everybody's part; especially Harrelson's. If you are into that kind of thing, this one is worth a look.

Punisher: War Zone
Nothing compared to Jane's Punisher. The story was okay, but I thought the acting was pretty sub-par. I actually felt like I was watching a Tokyo Gore Police-type movie for the most part. The explosions and stuff were pretty lame. Plenty of violence. Since I'm new to the Punisher universe, it was interesting to see some of the villains I've heard about that he's faced on-screen. I wasn't too impressed, but I wasn't completely bored, either. If you're thinking about giving this a shot, rent it; if you buy it, don't pay more than ten bucks for it. As I said earlier, Jane's Punisher was much better in my opinion.
