So, I closed on Friday and moved in over the weekend (and am as sore as a Godzilla fan in late May of 1998). We're like 95-98% moved in now.

What follows is and will be the continually updated (read bumped) tale of tasks/responsibilities as a homeowner I've never ever had to do or cared to do because I've always rented until now...

First up - the new place has 18ft ceilings in some rooms and (I think) 10 ft ceilings in every other room. In other words, I NEED a ladder. Believe it or not, I've never used a homeowner-type ladder before. I've used roof access ladders and such but I've never had a reason to use an extension/step ladder. This may result in some injuries. I'll be sure to keep you posted on this one as long as I don't break my BBMB'ing fingers.

Then there's the granite countertops - no more using Clorox wipes...there are granite wipes out there but the ones I saw in the store the other day said nothing about disinfecting. Am I doomed to horrible nightmarish diarrhea every time I get a little raw chicken on the counters? We shall see...

Then there's the stainless steel fridge/other appliances - did you know that stainless steel fridge fronts are non-magnetic??? I didn't. Admittedly, I never thought about it, but it was a bit startling when I went to put my magnetic cup full of pens and markers on the fridge and it slid down as if I'd tried to stick it to the wall.

Which (for now) brings me to my "media center" - My previous media center has been a smallish TV stand sitting in front of a pair of DVD wall racks I purchased from a closing-down Blockbuster. Going for a cleaner look in the family room, the DVD racks will now be in the game room (or the media room, haven't quite decided yet). In the interim, I decided to set up the TV stand...much to my chagrin, the cable box (which had previously sat on one of the DVD shelves because the TV stand got full with board games, my Xbox, etc...) does not fit on the TV stand!!!! D'oh! Now, buying a new entertainment center, previously a low-priority item, has been bumped up the list...and if I'm going to tackle that issue, my mentality is that I might as well tackle the entire notion of the multimedia in the living room and install surround sound (room is pre-wired), which means new speakers, a stereo/receiver, and tiny little shelves for the surround sound speakers to sit on.

I'm staring down the barrel of some WORK over the next few weeks/months and the magnitude of it is just about starting to hit home. Some of it I look forward to and think I will enjoy (setting up multimedia stuff), some of it will no doubt be a tedious bore (unpacking the bathroom and deciding which shelves get aspirin/toothpaste/deodorant/body wash/etc), and some of it I dread due to a known dislike for the activity (landscaping).

It's also hitting home how BIG this place is...at 3700+ sq ft, it's more than twice the size of the next biggest place I've ever lived...that one hit home when I went to go feed the cat and the walk from where his food was being stored to the food dish took me almost a full minute.
