The Hole. I wanted to like this more than I did, unfortunately. The middle third or so feels really sluggish, and has issues with maintaining any sort of consistency in pacing or tone.

There were also some kinda sizable flaws with characters struggling to figure out certain things right in front of their faces, but then also being too insightful and smart for kids...and there was a moment spent on this quasi-puzzle thing that was basically pointless as it didn't really help to advance the plot, honestly.

It's been a while since Dante has done a feature-length film (2003), and even longer since he's done a feature-length horror film, but it's not a stellar return...

the clown was creepy as f*ck though.

So much fun. I still like Evil Dead 2 the best.

Also, watching the last half of The Mist.

I really need to buy this movie.

Well, I ultimately decided to be Tetsuo from 'Akira' for Halloween. So now I have a red cape, a white T-shirt, and an opera glove that I'm gonna cover in cut-up pop cans, duct tape, and some random junk. Dunno how good it'll all look when all's said and done, but it should suffice for something I decided on under duress. Too much waxing and fake cleavage involved with being Poison from Final Fight, so I had to do something easier. It's probably for the best anyway. :P

The Devil's Carnival - It was okay. It has amazing costumes and some great set pieces, but the story was confusing and lacked any really memorable songs. I definitely prefer Repo The Genetic Opera over it.

Silent Hill Revelations - I am disappointed. Everything they got right, was done exceptionally well. The monsters were awesome, the music rocked, and the scenery was amazing, especially the amusement park. However, the pacing of the movie was absolutely atrocious. They threw what clearly should have been a 2 hour movie into a 90 minute run time just so they could afford to do it in 3D. Plus, Carrie Ann-Moss was terrible as Claudia Wolf. That lady's acting ability just keeps diminishing every time I see her in a newer movie. However, like I said, the plot was completely rushed, but the ending was really nicely done and sets the movie off where they could do multiple movies if they really wanted to.

Dracula (Spanish version)

I've always heard this simultaneous Spanish language version of the Universal Dracula was better, and how they watched the footage the English language crew shot during the day and filmed during the night with the express purpose of one-upping it.

... but it's not (better, that is). It's a more lively, capably shot, and breezy film compared to the more static original - but in the transition it looses much of the creepiness the original's stark simplicity has. The female lead is much stronger in this version, but the Spanish Van Helsing and Renfield are weaker then their English counterparts, and then there's Dracula himself: so there was little chance someone would top Lugosi's performance, but Carlos Villarias is horrible as Dracula. He seems to be trying to imitate Lugosi, but just comes off as a goober.

I've actually never watched the Spanish version, and I have had the Legacy sets since the day it came out.

I think the Dawn remake absolutely falls apart once they make those stupid uber-trucks and leave the mall. Most of the first 2 thirds is pretty good, especially the first 10 minutes.

And Land of the Dead is awesome. I'll defend that movie till my dying breath. Of the three post-Day Romero zombie films, its the only one that gets BETTER each time I watch it.

Young Frankenstein

'You know, I'm a rather brilliant surgeon. Perhaps I can help you with that hump.'
'... what hump?"

This is a perfect movie, both an absolutely hilarious comedy and a loving and at some points rather touching tribute to Universal horror films.

In short, if you don't like this movie, then I'm not sure we can be friends.

Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.
