I rewatched Tron over the weekend, I picked up the new blu-ray + DVD combo a few weeks ago and finally got around to watching it.
Wow -- the new restoration is fantastic, I thought the movie looked good on the 20th Anniversary release; it's even better now.
The color/light pulsing has been removed so that the movie looks like what the director initially wanted. If you have the 20th Anniversary release, the extras talk about how the pulsing happened -- it was all a mistake originally the overseas animation house improperly packed the animation panels and there just wasn't the time or money available to fix it. Initially it was only a portion of the movie with accidental pulsing -- when the crew making the movie discovered the mistake they decided to roll with it and purposefully caused the pulsing throughout the rest of the movie.
The restoration is very impressive, well worth getting. On rewatching the movie again it also occured to me that Tron has a better story than it is usually given credit for. Now I need to go watch the movie on blu-ray, I was only watching the DVD.
