It really does feel good to finally have the truth out there. I know it seems a lot of people knew Franz was a jerk before I even met him, but I'm glad I was the first one with real behind the scenes experience with the film itself to come and speak up about it. It had to be said, and whether Franz decides to "finish" GZH or not, I don't think he should get G-Fest support this year. Last year they gave him a session for his screening, a Q & A session and even let his friends in a crappy U2 wannabe band play a full set IN THE FRIGGIN HOTEL BALLROOM after the main presentation (I think maybe 2 people actually stayed for that). Godzilla: Zero Movie is a waste of time for everybody.

I'm glad Armand and Brett saw my story here. Its for the best.

At least I made a few real friends out of the GZH nonsense. Bob Harrington (GZH composer, even though Franz replaced his music with crappy local pop bands), Alex Berg (GZH lead actor) and Jose (GZH screnwriter even though Franz rewrote his script) are some of the coolest and most down to earth guys you could ever meet and remain good friends.

G-Fan when I picked it up about 12 years ago was a great magazine then with in the past four years or so it took a big turn for the worst.

You know, I'd really love to see a GOOD Godzilla fanfilm for once. Everything I've seen footage from ranges from underwhelming to just... well, gross.

The two major ones are what? GZH and Kaiju Killer, correct? GZH has some great concepts there (the "kaiju chasers" idea is brilliant, even if similar to the team in G2K) but in many ways it reeks of "overwrought fanfic." It's just far, far too ambitious for a fan-made film and most of the CGI footage I've seen just looks terrible. Add on top of all that are these things MFW and others have now been telling us about the production and it's just awful. Especially this dude's ego. IMO, a fan film should pay tribute to the franchise, not try to one-up it (not that this ever would anyway).

And then there's Kaiju Killer. Hoo boy. I have to give a round of applause to the guys to go and make their own suits from scratch. A for effort, certainly. But their Godzilla just looks so... weird. Underbite, super-short neck, ridiculously bulky shoulders. It looks like Godzilla but only barely. And then the rest of the production (aside from the aliens' costumes - those work pretty well, I'll admit) looks really, really shoddy. Most of it looks like a nine-year-old took their Godzilla toys out into the back yard and tossed them around while their buddy filmed it. Plus it's all shot in fullscreen and while widescreen isn't a requirement it just makes everything seem that much more amatuerish.

And then all the other fanfilms are either people actually filming their figures being thrown at each other or CGI films that just aren't visually appealing at all.

Again, I applaud that anyone's putting effort into doing fanfilms at all but damn. I know it can be done better than this. :?

Man, I've been making a lot of really long posts tonight.

As I said, A for effort. However, all of that effort will fall flat if the product turns out looking so shoddy. I mean, it's really not *that* difficult to make visually pleasing shots on a shoestring budget. :|

When I first saw GxKK's Godzilla suit I didn't like it but thought "well if they shoot it right then they can still save it!" Judging from the footage they've released? Well, I've already said how I feel about that.

EDIT: I should add that I really WANT to like these films, trust me. I'd love to see a well-done fanfilm. But as an artist and sometimes filmmaker myself... I just can't. :?

I gotta say that I know for a fact that the GxKK folks are just more "fan film" makers that just wanna be big shots. The whole reason they even post on the GZH forum is just to spite Franz. These "fan films" just a battle of egos, as even Franz once told me that the only reason he wanted to finish GZH was to make GxKK look foolish.

Its petty and stupid on both sides.
