Radio Bikini. An excellent documentary made in the 1980's using archive footage (most of which was taken for a propaganda film that never came to be) and a couple of new interviews chronicling the atomic bomb tests at Bikini Atoll in 1946. Very effective, informative, and highly recommended.

The Great Dictator
Epic comedy film from Charlie Chaplin in 1940. He was the only filmmaker brave enough to make an anti-fascist film at the time (the US had yet to enter WW2). The film casts Charlie in a duel role as a Hitler-like ruler and as a Jewish barber (who's basically his "Little Tramp" character).

It's the forth Chaplin film I've seen and I enjoyed it the most. It's both the funniest one and has the strongest story.

Saps at Sea

To be fair, Laurel and Hardy are really only "at sea" during the last 15 minutes of this movie, but that's all right. This is a prime example of a nice Laurel and Hardy movie: no plot, just a series of sketches and a run time of about an hour (not that the plot and music heavy The Devil's Brother and March of the Wooden Soldiers were bad).

Go West

Later Marx Brothers film still packs some good laughs, including a few lines that I'm suprised made it past the censors (must have not known the double meaning of "beaver").

The Grudge

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Toshio is way spookier than Freddy Kruger.

GMK - I really like this movie. I like the cast, I like the monster designs, and I like the action. But, most of all, I like that it doesn't feel like just another formulaic, bland Godzilla film. I actually have fun watching GMK all the way through instead of just fastforwarding through scenes trying to get to the "good" stuff. I actually watched this last Friday with a friend of mine. And while we laughed at some of the more awkward scenes (the man who finds Ghidorah buried in ice, or the Ghidorah transformation sequence), she also enjoyed it as well. It was interesting to see a non-fan's take on a Godzilla movie.

Jurassic Park - This is a really nostalgic movie and, prior to a few days ago, wasn't something I'd watched in years. I really enjoy it and it amazes me just how well the effects hold up to this day, even keeping in mind movies like AVATAR, Transformers 2, and Star Trek. The cast is good, the musical score is amazing, and the plot moves fast enough to keep my attention. It's better than The Lost World or JPIII easily. I still prefer the book, though. The characters are more interesting and the story goes deeper with the science and the themes of reckless advancement and so forth.

Predator - I got a Predator/Predator 2 DVD-combo at Walmart and took the time to watch the first one. It's a well-made action film (with a nice musical score), but I'd honestly rather watch Aliens. Still, the original Predator is a pretty nice monster in its own right and the actions pretty cool. I don't have too much to say for it, though.

-Fear(s) of the Dark- Pretty interesting animated horror anthology film from France, with each story done by different animators. The stories themselves are hit and miss, but the good ones are superb.

-Requiem for a Dream- Probably the first time I saw this since I was in high school. I thought it was boring then, but I found it to be mind blowingly amazing now. Aronofsky is the man... can't wait for Black Swan.

-The Red Shoes- Powell and Pressburger's masterpiece of British cinema and early technicolor. Its easy to see why this is Martin Scorsese's favorite movie.

Black Narcissus- Another great Powell/Pressburger classic with a truly chilling final act.

Alice in Wonderland- Basically pretty average...not poorly made or anything...just forgettable. In fairness, Depp as Mad Hatter wasn't as ridiculous as I would have thought. On the other hand, what a waste of Christopher Lee for like two lines of dialogue.

Iron Man 2- I actually enjoyed it, it's not my favorite super hero movie but I did enjoy it better than the first film.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World- I've been wanting to see this since I saw a trailer for it and was pleasntly suprised. I loved all the homages to classic video games and stuff. Defeintly going to be picking this up.
