RIP Nicholas Courtney

Postby sentaison » Thu Feb 24, 2011 1:58 am

Actor Nicholas Courtney, whose best known and most loved role was that of Brigadier Alastair Lethbridge-Stewart on Doctor Who, has passed away at the age of 81. He was a "companion" to no less than five of the original eight Doctors, and also appeared in The Sarah Jane Adventures in 2008.

I know I'm not the only Whovian who had hoped he would show up in the new Doctor Who series at some point. He always had great presence and his scenes with Jon Pertwee are among the reasons I personally feel that those episodes are the best of the first series. Another wonderful part of the Who Universe is gone. :(

It's a shame Nicholas Courtney never had a chance to appear on the New Series. Courntey's character, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, has long been one of my favorites.

I think that when all is said and done Courtney was the only actor in the history of Doctor Who who was just as important as any actor who played The Doctor.

He will definately be missed.
