Why I think that Toho have a print of Godzilla 1985

When releasing Godzilla 1985 it has always been mentioned that there is a lack of good materials available. When it is suggested that a company go to Toho there is usually the response (and a quite logical one) that Toho doesn't have the print to every dub or version of the film.

However, I just don't beleive that to be the case in regards to Godzilla 1985.

I mean no one besides Toho would release a Godzilla film in Japan even just for distribution.

So I want to know who released this

New World didn't have the right's to distribute it in Japan (at least I strongly doubt it). This means that Toho must have had materials to release it.

That means that there most likely a widescreen copy of G85 somewhere being held by Toho.

So what does everyone think?

Well, of course they HAVE a print.

But is it serviceable? Probably, no. Toho wouldn't take the care with overseas prints as they would their own prints.

That's a toho video. You can vaguely make out the TOHO VIDEO label near the top on the side (not visible, but there's a colored strip like Toho usually uses.)

I actually have an older vhs release of Godzilla 1985 from Toho Video. The film isn't in widescreen and is actually the same exact transfer New World put out on beta, vhs, ced, and ld, but there is one really cool difference. Instead of saying New World Video like it does here, it says New World PICTURES and Godzilla lets out a huge roar over the logo which really sets the mood for the film. Michael Felsher told me they were unable to find pre-print material for the film (or were just too lazy to look for it). Maybe Toho has them because I sure as hell want Godzilla 1985 any day over Gojira (1984) or The Return of Godzilla. Has anyone ever heard the dubbing for The Return of Godzilla???? Its the WORST dub I have ever heard. The voices never match the lips movements, and everyone has a thick Australian/New Zealand accent that is distracting to the point of being unwatchable. The New World dubbing might not have matched the lips, but at least the voices went well with the characters...

Oooh cool! I remember that was the way the film was in theaters back in summer of 1985! I really missed the roar when it appeared on video....

Seems I can remember trying to catch it on TV in hopes it would have the roar... but don't recall if it did or not.

I must be the only person who like both "The Return of Godzilla" and it's dub.
