It was my favorite of the Heisei when I finally got to see the Heisei series (late 90s, early 2000's?). But now I have grown up some and honestly the movie doesn't make much sense. We can speculate all we want about how much the filmmakers thought this through, but I have to agree with Jelly here in that they really didn't. But I also agree that there is more than one way to interpret movies and if you believe SciFi Japan's theory than go with it. What the filmmakers did or didn't intend is a bit irrelevant at this point.
