I can't find any videos of the actual scene, but it this has been something that has bugged me for YEARS.

Do you recall at the start of Godzilla rampage at the power plant in the Return of Godzilla, there is a scene of a marsh, and some birds fly away. During this scene, there is a bird call that happens, and it has been haunting me for years. Every once in awhile I think I hear it in a video. I definitely heard it during the brief period of time I lived in Japan.

Does ANYONE know what type of bird that makes that sound? This is the closest approximation I can think of, and it may actually be the source of the sound:

I haven't seen the G85 in a long time, but I know the scene you're talking about well. I believe that the bird is indeed a Loon, not necessarily a Common Loon, which is so often used in movies and those new-agey nature CDs they make for peace and tranquility. Loons have an alomst haunting call, so they are popular sound effects for eliciting a calm feeling in dawn, pre-dawn, foggy movie scenes. I'm almost positive it was in fact a loon call that was used. Japan has at least one species of Loon, not that G85 necessarily uses that particular species, but it's better than all the movies out there that feature Loon calls in places where loons don't exist.

It's kind of like whenever you see an eagle or any other bird of prey in a movie, they almost always use the call of a Red-tailed Hawk because people associate that call with scenes from old westerns that would have a raptor flying through a canyon or some such scene, and they would play that call. It also happens that a lot of people find the high-pitched whistles or "screams" made by many other raptors to be weak, laughable, or annoying.

But that's neither here nor there - the bird you're hearing in G85 is a loon.

Here's my question.

Why didn't they use that plan against Godzilla again? I mean, it worked pretty darn well.

This isn't like the Oxygen Destroyer or The Anti Nuclear Bacteria where the Creator died and the weapon is too hard to recreate. The set up is pretty straightforward (at least when compared to other Anti-Godzilla strategies) so it'd be easy as pie to duplicate.

Heck, G-Crusher worked pretty darn well too. Why not go back to that well somehow? I mean how many Rodans in the world are there to muck it up again?
