So. After a surprisingly brief session of ideas I bring to you Godzilla vs. Destroyah.
The film begins, not in Hong Kong, but on Monster Island. It's night. We open on a dead Kamacuras. Near to it we see a dead Kumonga. Their bodies seem to be burnt and we hear rumbling in the distance. Rodan is flying towards Godzilla. He's burning godzilla at this point, and illuminates the dark island. It seems that everywhere he walks or blasts he instantly turns to the island to smoldering liquid rock. Rodan gets blasted into the ocean, just before Angilas tries to tackle Godzilla. The fight doesn't last long. Godzilla grabs Angilas by his tail and tosses him to the side. Godzilla powers up and fires his beam at Angilas. The creature is caught in a massive explosion. The island itself begins to split apart as Godzilla roars in triumph over his vanquished foes.
Meanwhile, G-Force is genuinely worried about Godzilla's state, but deeper problems are brewing. Miki manages to seek out Yamane's descendant, and he's not sure what could stop Godzilla. Nothing but the Oxygen Destroyer could cleanly destroy the original Godzilla. During construction of a tunnel near Tokyo Bay, a worker is found disintegrated entirely. No one is sure what's causing it. G-Force has no chance to do anything, when a massive coup occurs. Miki and the others are shocked, as reports come in of G-Force outposts attacking nearby government facilities. Aoki reveals that HQ isn't safe as he and several other members turn on the group. The Red Bamboo have infiltrated G-Force and are taking over the Japanese government. General Aso, Miki, and crew manage to escape before the JSDF and G-Force begin their combat. Aso hates running away but says that their priority is that Godzilla is melting down. Wherever he melts down, he'll destroy the area, make it unlivable. Chernobyl times 1000.
Aso takes the group of survivors to a hanger where they meet Sho Kuroki and an old vehicle that had been left in storage. X Corp had produced one more Super X, the Super X3 after the incident with Biollante, y'know, in case. Before leaving G-Force we see Aso letting Yuki out of his cell at HQ. Aso tells him something like "It's up to you now, do what you want." Meanwhile both forces of the JSDF and the Red Bamboo/G-Force are having difficulty when the Destroyah crabs begin attacking their forces. These things attack with the same beams in the movie but they disintegrate living tissue. The soldiers notice they're coming by the thin air, difficulty breathing. The beasts roam the battlefield of Tokyo killing whatever they find.
The group flies out to meet Godzilla in the Super X3, and we get the freezing sequence. The meltdown is going to happen, but they need to find a way to stop it. Yuki returns to the fold of the Red Bamboo. They show him the various points at which they're fighting the JSDF and around the HQ. News of the Destroyah attacks get to both the Red Bamboo and the Super X3 crew. Both put together various pieces of the puzzle. The Oxygen Destroyer was used in Tokyo Bay and that's where the X Corp Lab Module crashed. They were trying to replicate micro oxygen as well. So, in response to the destroyah crabs, which start fusing together to become slightly larger crabs, Red Bamboo launches the latest G-Force machines. MOGUERA, basically that is in three components. They manage to think they've destroyed the monsters and go back to base thinking they're victorious.
The crew of the Super X3 think this Destroyah is behaving like a living oxygen destroyer and may be able to stop Godzilla. As Godzilla thaws out, Miki manages to try and convince Godzilla to folllow them to Tokyo. Godzilla does so, following the Super X3 and trying to destroy it. Destroyah now resurrects as his giant final form. This Destroy will have smaller thighs and the like so it can move around. Longer arms as well. It begins its rampage and MOGUERA launches and combines. MOGUERA struggles and is doing okay. Suddenly there's an explosion, and error messages pop up. MOGUERA malfunctions. Meanwhile explosions go off all around Tokyo at the Red Bamboo fronts holding off the JSDF and finally at G-Force HQ. We then see Yuki, standing far off from the action smoking a cigarette and being a badass. He drops a large detonator, and walks away. Destroyah makes use of this brief pause and literally rips MOGUERA in half.
Destroyah starts his rampage anew but not before being blasted by Godzilla's supercharged ray. The two monsters begin a furious fight that really needs to be as brutal as possible. It must outshine the previous battles. Destroyah's ray, when it hits, disintegrates pieces of Godzilla's body. The JSDF quickly retakes the G-Force HQ and Aoki and the other baddies are taken into custody. The others in the Super X3 circle the area, blasting Godzilla with the ice beam hoping to help this along. Unfortunately the temperature increases drastically. Destroyah, who seemed unstoppable, appears to be melting. The beast seems to be giving in to the immense radiation. Godzilla blasts Destroyah beyond recovery, and he falls to the ground. Godzilla looks up at the Super X3 and blasts at it, but briefly there's a connection to Miki. They ask what's happening? She says "It's over." Godzilla's body erupts in energy. We get to see everyone watching the spectacle. The meltdown happens as in the film, but this time it's for realz. A huge nuclear pulse goes off as his body flies apart. The shockwave wipes out most of the remaining buildings and from the air the Super X3 crew all see the end of Godzilla, Tokyo, and possibly Japan.
Bryan had an idea for an alternate ending, and I'll let him post that later.
I went with this one, because...hell, I just like it. I also love how Shindo sort of felt betrayed by his savior, and wanted to stop Godzilla and keep him from destroying Japan. In the end Shindo got one of his wishes. He managed to kill Godzilla in a roundabout way (the micro oxygen the X Corporation created evolving into a full fledged Destroyah and the fact that the lab module was crucial in creating SpaceGodzilla who's energy was absorbed by Godzilla in the last film thus making him go meltdown).
The funny thing is that in the end Shindo's roundabout way of stopping Godzilla destroyed Japan. Has mankind learned their lesson this time? Will it stop tampering with things far beyond its control? I think not, and I think that's the theme behind these things. Even in the midst of two major crisis (Godzilla's Meltdown, Destroyah appearing) the Red Bamboo is far more concerned with taking over Japan. They ignore their past misdeeds and in the end we all pay for it. It's also in keeping with Honda's idea of universal cooperation. If the G-Force, the JSDF hadn't been pitted against one another then maybe this could all be avoided.
Anyway, that's the ending. That's my attempt to fix the Heisei series, and thanks to Bryan for helping me narrow down ideas and the like.
