The Strength of Godzilla's Breath in GvsD...?

This discussion keeps coming up over at Toho Kingdom, and despite all the squabbling and bickering it creates every time it comes up, a clear answer never seems to arrive.

Is Godzilla's ray in Godzilla vs Destroyah (pre-meltdown) supposed to be stronger than his usual, blue one? I always thought so and considering the state Godzilla is in it seems obvious to me that the ray is supposed to be stronger.

Is there anyone here who knows for sure? August, perhaps?

I always figured it was stronger, since the change in color kinda became like his "finishing move" in the Heisei movies.

Some would argue that Godzilla's finishing move in vsMG and vsSG was the "spiral ray", and that is indeed seen at the very end of Destroyah as Godzilla approaches meltdown, making the ray seen during the rest of the movie not exactly the same thing.

But I think the beam hierarchy is pretty much the blue ray as the weakest, with the spiral ray from MG and SG more or less equal to the ray throughout most of Destroyah, followed by the pre-meltdown ray as being the most powerful.

But Godzilla's ray throughout most of Destroyah cant possibly be weaker than the normal blue ray. I just don't see it.

I would say yes, but then I would also say who cares? :dunno:

As far as I know, the source of the controversy is that line by the Super X3 pilot, where he says, "his ray is not as powerful as we'd anticipated" or something.

Not really sure why he'd say that. Maybe they all saw that Godzilla was emitting a red heat beam this time, and perhaps they were aware that he'd also used a (more powerful) red heat beam during the battles with SpaceGodzilla and Mechagodzilla, leading them to believe that this red beam that he was using during his pre-meltdown phase was the same one. Then when Godzilla actually fired his ray, they determined (maybe by instruments on board the SX3) that the ray was "only" as powerful as his normal blue ray. But....maybe that's over thinking things.

Or, maybe because Godzilla was in a serious state of bad health, his energy ray's power was diminished.

Or maybe it's a mistranslation. Either way, I don't really care.

Isn't that the dub though? I used to have a subtitled vhs from back in the day where the line was translated "We expected his breath to be more powerful" or something like that. The way the line was delivered by the actor, however, made me think he meant it as, "whoa, that was strong. Yeah, we expected it to be more powerful than usual". NOT "hey that wasn't as stong as i expected"

I LOVE these little comparisons and stats. :D

What's funny to me is that if the vs. Destroyer beam is supposed to be hotter/more powerful, then the color is aaaaaaaall wrong. Blue light is ca. 420 nm wavelength, and red has ca. 710 nm wavelength. The shorter the wavelength, the more energy being given off. Blue is hotter.

So, either the color is wrong or the beam really is weaker. Since the spiral ray was a red, yellow and orange-ish colored, I think we can assume that Toho screwed up on the color if that beam was SUPPOSED to be more powerful than the original blue one.
