Well, I don't know that I would say it's the darkest score (I still consider Ifukube's score for the original film to be the darkest, which PERFECTLY set the tone for that movie), but it is certainly a VERY good one and is one of my faves!

I agree. It set a nice tone, that was never met. I'm a big fan of the G85 score.

In my opinion, the Godzilla 1985/Return of Godzilla score is the quintesential Godzilla soundtrack.

The soundtrack of the original 1954 film was perfect for the themes and atmosphere it strived to produce, but as far as the actual monster "Godzilla" goes, I prefer the 1985 score.

It portrays all elements of Godzilla, from his horror, to his power, to his magnificence as a mysterious creature.

And that's not even mentioning the fantastic military score, which one of the best of the series.

The G85 score is large, serious, epic, and quite often mysterious. Absolutely awesome.

This score is one of the darkest, but I have to say that GKOTM is the darkest.

It's always been rather "meh" to me. Some of it is really good and atmospheric, but at other times seems totally out-of-place. It also doesn't help that there are not one, but two cheesy Japanese pop songs in the movie. Two! But regardless, I do like the opening credits music a lot, and the atmosphere was heightened by the cool fire slash things they had in G85. Much better than the rather drab volcano footage in the original version. The jump cut from Godzilla's roar to Raymond Burr was nicely done as well.

I agree; I think the score is very dark and ominous sounding. I love it.
