As a side note, I will say that not all that long ago I thought I was the only one who really remembered--and loved--kaiju films, let alone knew a thing or two about them, so once in a while I have to pinch myself into believing that not only is there a huge community of kaiju fans out there, but a heck of a number of them would constitute what I would in all seriousness consider honest to goodness *scholars* on the subject. So to have someone on a board educating me on Things Kaiju is in that sense an unexpected dream come true.
The first time SciFi aired the Mothra trilogy was when I found out about online fandom. I didn't even know there were American Heisei releases after 85,I only knew the series existed from a Kevin Smith website, and only in boot form. This board is so awesome.
Now back on topic. It is beyond retarded that I can't have the Heisei series on DVD. It's stupid to have to watch 85 on a crappy worn out VHS,then Biolantte on (an admittedly pretty good)VHS,then Ghidorah and Mothra on DVD (which is unfortunately Pan and Scan from what I hear,I rented VHS from blockbuster,I don't have enough cash right now) Then back to VHS for Mechagodzilla,THEN you get the final two in a decent form. So,when I have them all,and put them on my shelf, they'll look stupid. I won't even get into the decision to call it Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II (Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes isn't called "II") And as far as offering 2 launguage tracks,ALL anime DVD's have them. The DVD's are all still normal price. Maybe Toho should look into ADV or something when the Sony contract runs out. Sony,I'm sure, thinks they don't sell enough to justify it,but I have Bubble Gum Crisis with dual language, which is a lot less popular than Godzilla.
