Showed this one to the fiancee over the weekend. She's a big time travel buff, and I think she was frustrated by the difficulty in following the movie's time travel logic, but she agreed with my basic interpretation of events (which does not involve a stable time loop).

Overall, while it's not among her favorites (she's a Showa girl to the core, and I doubt any of the later Heisei films or the Millennium entries are going to change that), she seemed to like it a lot more than RoG or GvsBiollante. She liked the boldness of the concepts, and Shindo's death scene definitely worked for her.

With the Showa movies, she and I had almost exactly the same opinions on each movies. By contrast, she's clearly not nearly as into the early Heisei flicks as I am, but GvsKG is the closest we've yet come to being on the same page.
Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

Meh.

There are some really awesome moments in this movie. Godzilla's first appearance before he beats KG is completely epic. Everything about that scene is perfect, especially the score. The battle with KG is entertaining, and the decapiation scene was fantastic.

But for all the coolness in this film, I cannot stand the time travel idea.

Note: I said nineties films. I love the eighties films. Despite their rather glaring flaws, they're still incredibly enjoyable and a promising start to a new series. The nineties were a huge let-down after those.

You're out of your mind if you think this movie is as bad as Space Godzilla.

It's slightly better but it still exhibits many of the same problems.
