Showed this one to the fiancee over the weekend. She's a big time travel buff, and I think she was frustrated by the difficulty in following the movie's time travel logic, but she agreed with my basic interpretation of events (which does not involve a stable time loop).
Overall, while it's not among her favorites (she's a Showa girl to the core, and I doubt any of the later Heisei films or the Millennium entries are going to change that), she seemed to like it a lot more than RoG or GvsBiollante. She liked the boldness of the concepts, and Shindo's death scene definitely worked for her.
With the Showa movies, she and I had almost exactly the same opinions on each movies. By contrast, she's clearly not nearly as into the early Heisei flicks as I am, but GvsKG is the closest we've yet come to being on the same page.
Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.
